Wolves enjoyed their best performance and result of the season, beating Chelsea 4-2 at Stamford Bridge – but Gary O’Neil shared one thing he actually didn’t like after the game.
Matheus Cunha hit a hat-trick against the Blues, with Wolves completely superior to their opponents in all aspects.
Cunha and Pedro Neto were both especially brilliant, with the midfielders and the defence also absolutely solid.
The defeat to Manchester United really stung, and it was clear today that the players wanted to avenge that loss, which came right at the death at Molineux.
It was a fantastic response, and the result has lifted Wolves into the top half above Chelsea.
Despite such a brilliant display, perfectionist Gary O’Neil did find one thing he didn’t particularly like about his side’s display…
Gary O’Neil ‘didn’t like’ Wolves when they were 4-1 up at Chelsea

As far as away performances go, you can’t really asked for too much more than a 4-2 win against a Big Six side. Especially when you have never won at the ground of said Big Six side before.
But O’Neil did have one minor criticism of his team, and it was after Matheus Cunha had complete his hat-trick from the penalty spot.
He said (via BBC Sport): “I didn’t really like us at 4-1, a little lack of focus but harsh criticism of course. It’s a talented group. I really enjoyed it and the lads deserve massive credit.”
Chelsea did find another goal after Cunha had netted his third.
Thiago Silva heading in from a corner which will have disappointed the manager, but the visitors then stood firm at the back and protected Jose Sa well.
The mark of a top manager
If Pep Guardiola had said this, no one would bat an eyelid.
It is certainly the kind of answer the Spaniard would give after a brilliant display, and O’Neil is showcasing a similar ‘perfectionist’ mentality which is fantastic to see, and so refreshing.
Wolves are in very safe hands with the 40-year-old.
To be talking about things that could have been better, despite winning so brilliantly, just shows what a top manager he is.
