Gary O’Neil offers exciting Carlos Forbs verdict ahead of Wolves vs Newcastle

Carlos Forbs became the latest Wolves signing after his deadline day move to Molineux in late August.

The winger, who has joined on loan from Ajax with the option to buy, previously played for Man City where he dominated their youth set-up.

With Pedro Neto departing to Chelsea, Forbs is now believed to be his replacement as Wolves aim to climb the Premier League table.

Now, after a long international break, Forbs could make his Old Gold debut on Sunday against Newcastle at Molineux

In the build-up to the clash, Gary O’Neil was full of praise for the winger as he finally joined up with the Wolves group.

During the international break, Forbs was with the Portugal Under 21s where he helped to play a key role in their European Championship qualifying campaign.

The winger was subbed on in the 80th minute for Fabio Silva and found the net in a 2-0 victory over Croatia.

Now, he has arrived at Molineux with O’Neil getting his first proper look at the 20-year-old in training.

Ahead of the tie against Newcastle, the Wolves manager believes that Forbs has ‘bundles of potential’ as he hopes to make his debut on Sunday.

He said: “We finally got to introduce him to the group today and he’s an exciting young player. He has bundles of potential. He has good pedigree, has blistering pace and can play on both sides of the pitch.”

It is no secret that Wolves have started their Premier League campaign poorly. With only one point out of a possible nine, it is vital that they get a result against Newcastle.

Wolves face difficult tests throughout September, including a trip to Villa alongside hosting title-hopefuls Liverpool.

If the Old Gold want to move up the table, new signings such as Forbs must hit the ground running.

O’Neil may already be feeling the pressure after a poor end to the previous campaign meaning a victory against Newcastle could be crucial.
