Gary O’Neil lauds impact of ‘fantastic’ Wolves teenager after beating Brentford

Gary O’Neil hailed Nathan Fraser after last night’s win over Brentford in the FA Cup third round replay, in which the youngster scored.

Wolves are through to the fourth round, beating the Bees after going into extra-time.

Wolves old boy Nathan Collins gave the visitors the lead, but Nelson Semedo equalised shortly after two bites of the cherry.

Neal Maupay put Brentford in front again in the second-half, but it was young Fraser – who’s been linked with a loan exit from Wolves this month – who got Wanderers back on terms.

The game to extra-time, with the superb Matheus Cunha converting from the penalty spot after Pedro Neto had been fouled.

Wolves now face West Bromwich Albion at the Hawthorns in a Black Country derby in the fourth round – a game fans are absolutely buzzing for.

After the game last night, O’Neil moved to praise Nathan Fraser for his contributions…

O’Neil watched his side show great character against Brentford once again last night.

Across the two games, Wolves came from behind three times, and it’s clear this team are not to be counted out anymore.

O’Neil has faith in this crop, even the younger ones like Fraser.

On the Republic of Ireland youth international, the Molineux head coach said (via Wolves official): “It was a fantastic finish. It’s not easy when it’s on your right foot on that side, having to take it first time, and it was a really good finish. He’ll be really disappointed with the second one but I think it was a really good save, it was a tricky one and the keeper makes a good save, but he’d fancy himself to stick that away more often than not.

“He’s worked really hard and he’s not been fully fit for a long time and didn’t even train fully last week and missed a couple of days, but as everybody knows, we are short at the moment, especially with attacking players, with Channy [Hwang] being away, and he’s the next in line.

“We talk about using the 23s and we all understand the situation at the football club, we are where we are at this moment, and if the boys are training well and they’re doing enough to show me that they’re ready, I have no worries about using them.”

Fraser an exciting talent

Fraser has now come off the bench twice for Wolves this season to score, and one does just wonder if O’Neil might see something in him.

It was reported recently that Shrewsbury Town were set to sign him.

But O’Neil has loaned out Sasa Kalajdzic and Fabio Silva, and the teenager flew out with the squad for the Abu Dhabi training camp.

Perhaps there could be a chance of him sticking around. O’Neil said after last night’s game that he is ‘confident’ of signing a new striker, but Fraser certainly looks a really exciting young player.
