Wolves are set to open talks with Gary O’Neil about a new contract, following his fantastic work at the club this season.
O’Neil has Wanderers flying high, when many predicted the club would be in a relegation scrap this season.
Julen Lopetegui had left just days before the new season started, and a host of big-name players had been sold or allowed to depart.
Everything pointed to a season of struggle. But Gary O’Neil, fresh from keeping Bournemouth in the Premier League, came in and not only steadied the ship, but set an exciting new course.
Wolves fans are currently able to dream of European football which was something totally out of the question just a few months ago.
As a result of O’Neil’s brilliance, it is now being reported that Wolves are looking to hand him a shiny new contract…
Wolves to open talks with Gary O’Neil about new contract, he could get ‘significant’ buy-out clause

It has been reported this afternoon by the Telegraph that O’Neil is now in line for a new deal at Molineux, in news that will go down extremely well with supporters.
O’Neil is starting to get more plaudits now for the work he is doing, and there are probably a few clubs out there who fancy poaching him.
Wolves will be acutely aware that O’Neil will be drawing attention to himself, so it looks as though they are moving to keep him in place.
The Telegraph say this afternoon that talks will open between now and the end of the season.
The talks will be over a new ‘long-term’ deal, and it is expected Wolves will offer a salary increase. Crucially, it is also stated that Wanderers officials could insert a ‘significant’ buy-out clause.
New contract would be deserved
So Wolves are now looking to get O’Neil tied down to a stronger contract – and it is no less than he deserves.
O’Neil has been a revelation this season, coming in and completely defying the odds.
So many people wrote him off, but he’s got Wolves playing some terrific football and breathed new life into the football club.
It would be amazing to get him secured on a better deal, as this will minimise the chances of him getting poached this summer.
