Gary O’Neil handed big Mario Lemina boost ahead of Wolves vs Crystal Palace as first-teamer is confirmed fit

Wolves have been handed a massive boost ahead of their crucial match against Crystal Palace.

The Old Gold face their biggest game in years on Saturday. Up against Crystal Palace, Gary O’Neil’s side are searching for their first Premier League win of the season.

A victory could put them one point off safety, however, a defeat would see the side drift seven points adrift from 17th place.

While O’Neil does not see the Palace fixture as a ‘must-win’, it could be vital that Wolves secure maximum points.

Going into the tie, Wolves received a massive boost when it was confirmed that both Sam Johnstone and Mario Lemina could be fit for the game.

Johnstone has been unable to play the last few games due to a knock which has allowed Jose Sa to reclaim his spot in the net.

While O’Neil has not stated which goalkeeper he prefers at Wolves, the extra option will no doubt be a boost going into the game.

On top of this, Lemina was forced off the field against Brighton at half-time with a slight calf injury.

However, O’Neil is now also hopeful that his captain will be fit for Saturday’s tie.

In the build-up to the game, he said: “Johnstone is fine for tomorrow. Mario has trained a couple days and we’re hopeful he will be OK.”

For O’Neil, the Palace game could be vital. A loss would no doubt put his job in danger and he could get the boot.

Therefore, the Wolves manager has to take risks during the tie. If that means he has to play Lemina in order to get the result then O’Neil must do it.

Going into the Southampton game next week, Wolves need to be confident and full of momentum and a result against Palace will do this.

Hopefully, O’Neil will do what is needed in order to get a victory over the line.
