Gary O’Neil hails Wolves star after another top performance

Wolverhampton Wanderers boss Gary O’Neil has praised Pedro Neto for his performance in the win at Bournemouth on Saturday.

All eyes were on Wolves boss Gary O’Neil on Saturday as he headed back to take on former club Bournemouth.

The Cherries took a first-half lead through Dominic Solanke before Matheus Cunha pulled Wolves level after the break.

Lewis Cook’s red card really pushed the momentum towards Wolves and, whilst it took a while, O’Neil did grab the win he wanted.

Sasa Kalajdzic came off the bench to win it, slotting home after being picked out by Hwang Hee-chan inside the box.

This will have been very sweet for O’Neil, who was surprisingly axed by Bournemouth over the summer in favour of Andoni Iraola.

O’Neil will have been delighted with his attacking players as Cunha and Kalajdzic scored whilst Hwang and Pedro Neto recorded assists.

That’s now three games in a row with an assist for Neto, who has recorded six assists in just nine Premier League games this season.

Neto is truly back after struggling with injury problems and this was another impressive performance from the Portuguese wide man.

The 23-year-old racked up four key passes, three accurate crosses and two dribbles as he helped Wolves secure another three points.

O’Neil has now moved to praise Neto, telling BBC Sport that he felt the winger was ‘excellent’ whilst being moved around to try and cause Bournemouth problems.

“We moved him around a little bit, tried to find some weaknesses to put him up against and yeah, I thought he was excellent again,” said O’Neil.

Neto interest is only going to rise

The problem for Wolves is that these performances from Neto are only going to spark even more interest in his signature.

The Mirror suggested earlier this month that Arsenal are keen to land Neto as competition for Bukayo Saka.

90Min added just a few days ago that Liverpool scouted Neto in action for Portugal during the international break.

The more assists and ‘excellent’ performances Neto produces, the more top European clubs are going to push for his signature.

Let’s just hope that Neto still has plenty of time in a Wolves shirt yet, as he is dazzling the Molineux fanbase this season.
