Gary O’Neil gives injury update ahead of Wolves vs Sheffield United with Matheus Cunha “impressing” physios

Gary O’Neil states that Matheus Cunha is “surprising and impressing” on his road to recovering, as the manager gives an injury update ahead of Wolves vs Sheffield United.

Wolves return to Molineux on Sunday as they look to take their recent impressive away form back to Wolverhampton.

Gary O’Neil has overseen multiple stunning victories on the road, including a 2-1 victory over Spurs last weekend.

Saturday’s victory was their first without their starman Cunha. The forward picked up an injury in the 2-0 defeat to Brentford and will be out of action for the foreseeable future.

The injury is a massive blow to Wolves and their ambitions. O’Neil has got the club on the cusp of European football as well to the fifth round of the FA Cup. However, Cunha’s injury will certainly make it a challenge to see through these ambitions.

Before the Sheffield United game on Sunday, O’Neil delivered an update on Cunha’s progress back to the pitch.

Many feared the Brazilian may be out long-term when he was forced off after 20 minutes against Brentford. There were reports that Cunha could be out for the season. However, the attacker and O’Neil have been more optimistic about his return.

Speaking before the upcoming match, the manager was positive about his comeback, although he could not yet give a timeline.

Journalist Liam Keen reported that he said: “He’s impressing and surprising physios with what he’s doing. He’s in a good place but no real timeline.”

Thankfully, the manager did not have any other injuries to report on for the upcoming match. Apart from Cunha, everyone at the club is fully fit for the tie against Sheffield United.

Cunha had become a bit of a Wolves cult hero of late. He became the first player since Diogo Jota to net a Premier League hat-trick. His goal against West Brom in the FA Cup will also remain iconic for years to come.

Cunha’s comeback this season could be vital. Just a couple of appearances at the end of the season could be the difference between European football or even an FA Cup.

Thankfully, O’Neil seems more relaxed about the situation now which could mean that the Brazilian will be back sooner than first thought.
