Gary O’Neil fires warning to Wolves owner Fosun ahead of next season

Wolves have been left in a difficult position recently, prompting Gary O’Neil to send a clear message to Fosun ahead of next season.

Gary O’Neil has done an excellent job at Wolves under difficult circumstances, especially in recent weeks, as the Old Gold’s squad shortages have finally caught up with them.

Going into the 2023/24 campaign, many anticipated the Wanderers to be battling against relegation as Fosun were unable to facilitate new signings in the summer of 2023 to fill the gaps left by key departures.

Wolves were hamstrung by financial restrictions, which not only impacted the depth of their squad but also saw Julen Lopetegui leave his post just days before the season kicked off.

While O’Neil has done a tremendous job despite being supplied with limited resources, Fosun shouldn’t use that as a reason to not back the Englishman properly and learn from his previous mistakes.

Fosun must back Gary O’Neil in the transfer market

O’Neil is a wanted man having dragged Wolves into European contention this term, a position that no one expected the club to be in at the beginning of August.

The 40-year-old has worked wonders with one of the smallest squads in the Premier League and more recently, battled through numerous injury troubles to first-team stars.

Orchestrating a style of football that is easy on the eye and bringing the best out of most players in the squad, it is no surprise other top-flight clubs, including West Ham and Manchester United, have shown an interest.

Having completely surpassed expectations and led the Wanderers to an FA Cup quarter-final, their rivals have seen what he can do with a limited budget and envisage him achieving success with a big one.

Fosun should realise that O’Neil’s stock in management has skyrocketed and promise him a solid budget to work with in the summer transfer window.

The Englishman deserves to bring in the players to fill out his squad with quality talent and continue his journey at Molineux.

Gary O’Neil expects further investment from Fosun

Wolves avoided sanctions from FFP after selling £140m worth of players last summer.

While complying with FFP regulations saw them breathe a sigh of relief, it did leave them light on the ground and Fosun must eradicate that problem by backing his manager ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.

If he doesn’t and watches him walk out of Molineux, the Wolves owner will have blood on his hands, so he can ill-afford to let that happen.

In his press conference ahead of tomorrow’s clash against West Ham, O’Neil expects the club to learn from their mistakes in the summer.

“We have a real focus on this season, but trying to guard against this situation again next season is important to me,” O’Neil said. “We all have to learn from what has happened and make sure we’re better for it next year.”

O’Neil anticipates investment in his playing squad, judging by that statement, so Fosun must take note and back his manager with the necessary tools, otherwise another Lopetegui situation could play out.
