Gary O’Neil is reportedly admired by several key figures at Wolves, as the club get set to announce to exit of Julen Lopetegui.
It has been a significant day for the club, following claims last night that O’Neil was being lined up to replace the Spaniard.
Today, there have been reports that Lopetegui has held talks with the club over a settlement.
The expectation is that he will now leave the club – just six days before Wolves’ first Premier League game of the season.
It is a crazy situation, and hopefully one that will wrap up as quickly as possible.
And it looks as though O’Neil will likely be the man replacing Lopetegui.
Gary O’Neil admired by several key figures at Wolves as Lopetegui on the brink
According to the Daily Mail earlier today, O’Neil is the number one target to replace Lopetegui.

Apparently, the 40-year-old is admired by several key figures at Molineux.
O’Neil has been out of management for a couple of months, after getting the sack from Bournemouth.
That was a harsh decision, after he kept the Cherries in the Premier League.
But O’Neil is now free to take up another job.
And it looks like Wolves will be coming calling. Talks have apparently already been held.
It is now a question of when Lopetegui leaves, not if.
Gary O’Neil will need support and patience from Wolves fans
So it looks as though Lopetegui will depart.
And if O’Neil comes in, as expected now, then he needs the full support of the fanbase.
Obviously, the situation is far from ideal.

O’Neil is a downgrade on Lopetegui, but the worst thing would be for fans to oppose him and his appointment from the very start.
He’s proved himself capable with the work he did at Bournemouth.
He could now be thrown into a huge job, and he would need everyone behind him.
