Gary Lineker shares whether he thinks Wolves will be relegated or not this season

Wolves fans are growing increasingly concerned about the fate of the club this season.

Wolves still have not won a game win the Premier League in 2024/25, and have taken just three points so far this term.

Everything right now is pointing to a relegation battle come the end of the season, and Gary O’Neil is under mounting pressure.

Fosun are desperate for O’Neil to turn things around. However, they will have a big call to make if Wolves do not beat fellow strugglers Southampton this weekend.

Many fans are fearing the worst right now. But one man who believes that Wolves are going to be OK this season is Gary Lineker.

There is still reason for optimism for Wolves fans.

Previously, three Premier League clubs have taken three points from 10 games and gone on to survive.

But two of those teams – Everton in 1994/95 and Crystal Palace in 2013/14 – changed their managers after their poor starts.

It remains to be seen what will happen with O’Neil and whether he will turn things around.

But in the eyes of Match of the Day host Gary Lineker, Wanderers will be OK this season.

Speaking on the Rest Is Football podcast, he said: “I don’t think Wolves will go down.

“The other two sides are obviously prompted and it’s difficult when you come into the top-flight and haven’t probably got the talent that some of the other clubs have got.

“As we know now, it’s difficult to actually change that because of the nature of PSR.

“I think Wolves have got enough. Don’t forget, Wolves have had a really tough start. They’ve played all the kind of top-half teams in the opening stages of the season. They’ve actually got a really decent run of fixtures coming up against teams in the bottom half.

“So I think they’ll slide up the table.”

Wolves are up against it after horrible start

There will be quite a few Wolves fans out there who won’t have the same confidence as Lineker about Wolves surviving relegation this season.

So far this season, Wolves have been so poor at the back, and the losses of Max Kilman and Pedro Neto have really stung.

Wolves may not be past their tricky run of fixtures, but the issue now is that the next batch of games come with huge pressure on them.

There is an expectation that Wolves are going to start picking up points against the likes of Southampton, Fulham, Bournemouth, Everton, West Ham United and Ipswich Town.

But there’s so much riding on these games now, and there are question marks against this squad’s ability to handle pressure and grind results out.

We will see if Lineker’s prediction about Wolves rings true, and whether O’Neil will ultimately be the one to get the club safe.
