Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer share same Wolves suggestion after win over West Ham

Wolves ended their winless Premier League run in style on Saturday against West Ham United, and Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer have been discussing the club’s staying up prospects

The Old Gold beat the Hammers 3-0 at Molineux, showing the ruthlessness that has been missing all season.

Jhon Arias, Hwang Hee-chan and Mateus Mane were all on target for Wolves, as Rob Edwards collected his first points since taking over as manager.

WOW 😍. What is your message to Rob Edwards after that performance, Wolves fans?

It was a performance that had been coming. Wolves had looked really good against Liverpool and Manchester United, and struggling West Ham were seen as a big opportunity to get that first win.

Rob Edwards was seen playing the win down in the dressing room, as he knows there is a lot to do if Wolves are to get safe this season.

This morning, Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer have been discussing Wolves after their first win.

Wolves are up to six points now, meaning it’s 12 from safety.

The win over West Ham has just created a little bit of optimism, but fans are not getting too carried away just yet.

A lot of damage was done in the first half of the season, and it will take an almighty effort to turn things around.

Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer reacted to Wolves’ win on the latest Rest Is Football podcast – and both think it could be too little, too late for Wolves.

Lineker said: “Since Rob Edwards (came in), obviously that was his first victory. You can see that they’ve been more difficult to beat in a lot of games, they’ve been in games, particularly late on. You can see a bit of progress there.

“I suspect it might be too little, too late. It would be miraculous if they got out from where they are now. But you know, he’s come in and looks like he’s steadied the ship a little bit.

“Maybe a little turn, a bit of confidence, a spark of confidence, go on a little bit of an undefeated run possibly.”

Shearer added: “The last three games I think have been the ones that say OK, maybe they’re now on the right path. I do think it’ll be too little, too late, and they will have to suffer this season and go down and then maybe come back.”

Wolves have to make a move now

Wolves are still a long way from safety, but it’s just starting to feel as though Edwards is getting something from these players.

He’s been there for a couple of months now and worked so hard to prompt change, and Rui Pedro Silva also came aboard again recently, which can only be a positive.

If Wolves are to make an unlikely push for survival, they will have to move now.

It’ll be crucial to back the win over West Ham up, with another victory over Everton on Wednesday.

A few wins in the coming weeks could really change the picture, as could a productive month in the transfer window.
