Gary Lineker agrees as Alan Shearer notices something different about Wolves boss Gary O’Neil recently

Wolves got themselves out of the relegation zone at the weekend with a brilliant 4-1 win over Fulham.

Wanderers were able to follow up their win over Southampton before the international break with a fantastic performance and victory at Craven Cottage, which was inspired by Matheus Cunha.

Cunha equalised for Wolves, before assisting Joao Gomes and then scoring a stunning second.

Goncalo Guedes then scored a fourth for Wolves in injury-time.

It was a huge win for Wolves, because Fulham have started the season well and also took the lead in the game through Alex Iwobi.

This result has the potential to help Wolves kick on now, and Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker have both noticed a change in Gary O’Neil.

It was a resounding win for Wolves at Craven Cottage, which very few people saw coming.

In many ways, it was the most impressive Wolves performance for quite some time under O’Neil. Fulham are a great side, and Wolves rocked up away from home and were unable to play Santiago Bueno or Craig Dawson, with Mario Lemina filling in alongside Toti Gomes.

Wolves rode their luck a couple of times, but thankfully there was a real cutting edge in the final third and Cunha certainly stepped up once again.

Shearer hailed Cunha as one of the players of the season so far, and the Premier League legend also spoke about Gary O’Neil on the Rest Is Football podcast.

He said: “You can tell there’s an air of confidence around Gary O’Neil now. They had a really tough start in terms of fixtures.

“We said ‘This is the time for them to step up when they’ve got winnable games’. They certainly have done, and you can tell that. You can just see there’s a bit of a spark back in Gary.

“He’s got the belief back and the confidence is back within the football club. I always felt they’ll be all right. If they can keep him (Cunha) fit, they may be more than all right.”

Lineker added: “I totally agree on that.”

Fulham result can be the catalyst for Wolves

It was great to see O’Neil basking in the 4-1 win over Fulham because the last few weeks cannot have been easy for him, with talk about his job being on the line.

The Fulham game had the potential to get ugly, with Dawson and Bueno both not playing. But Lemina stood up to be counted for, and there were other fantastic performances from the likes of Toti Gomes, Joao Gomes and of course, the irrepressible Cunha.

This win could genuinely be the catalyst now for Wolves.

To win in such a manner against a great team should mean confidence is now high, ahead of some very reasonable fixtures in the Premier League.

It’s a chance to start climbing the table, and hopefully Wolves can extend this unbeaten run.
