Gary Lineker admits he ‘got it wrong’ as he makes renewed Wolves claim

Gary Lineker has backtracked on his previous prediction for Wolves’ Premier League campaign as he makes a renewed call.

Wolves‘ turnaround under Gary O’Neil has been very impressive and also unforeseen by many.

Taking the job just days before the Premier League kicked off, O’Neil survived some poor early form to now have his Wolves in a really solid place.

This change has seen Old Gold regularly praised, with Paul Merson the latest to laud this ‘outstanding’ Wolves side.

The crowning moment of O’Neil’s reign to date was the miraculous comeback against Spurs before the international break. Two late goals, both contributed to by Pablo Sarabia, saw Wolves pick up a 2-1 win.

Now, as the Premier League prepares to resume, further praise has been aimed towards Wolves.

Lineker makes a new Wolves prediction

Speaking on The Rest is Football podcast, Gary Lineker has admitted he was wrong to name Wolves as relegation favourites in his pre-season predictions.

“Our predictions were just after (Julen) Lopetegui kind of scarpered and they were managerless,” he explained.

“I am just trying to defend myself, Gary O’Neil has come in and what a job he has done. They are 12th in the table, but you have also got to bear in mind that they have had some VAR decisions go against them that have probably cost them maybe five points.

“I think overall, they play good football and I am going to move to maybe a lower mid-table finish like where they are at present. I am going to admit I _______ up and got it wrong.”

Wolves can move into the top 10 if results go their way

If results go their way this weekend, Wolves could have the chance on Monday night to enter the Premier League top 10.

Eight points in the last five games and just one loss, which itself was tainted by poor VAR calls.

Reaching the top 10 for Wolves, even if just temporarily would be a massive statement and a third of the way through the campaign, there’s no reason this can’t continue.

O’Neil deserves his flowers and it is great to finally see him getting them from expert pundits.
