Garth Crooks praises Jose Sa after performance for Wolves in 2-1 win over Aston Villa

BBC pundit Garth Crooks has again selected Jose Sa in his Premier League Team of the Week, after another great display for Wolves.

The stopper was on hand to thwart Aston Villa a few times on Saturday at Molineux.

Sa made four saves in the game.

The most impressive ones were when he denied Leon Bailey’s strike from distance in the first-half.

And right at the end he rushed out to challenge Matty Cash at the end, making himself big to block the full-back’s cushioned volley.

Prior to that huge save, Sa had actually given away a penalty on Ollie Watkins.

That said, the goalkeeper was very lucky to be penalised. It looked as though it could easily have been given as a foul by the striker.

Overall it was a great display from Sa, and a performance he needed after his showing against Leeds United.

Speaking about the 29-year-old, Crooks said (BBC Sport): “I thought Sa was unlucky to concede the penalty but it didn’t diminish what I thought was another outstanding performance by the Portugal international.”

Jose Sa back on track for Wolves after superb Villa display

Sa was uncharacteristically poor against Leeds before the international break.

He appeared to lose his concentration against the Whites, and it was important for him to bounce back with a good showing against Villa.

That is exactly what he did.

He may have conceded the penalty, but it was a controversial decision that other officials might have given the other way.

He ended up atoning for it with the save from Cash anyway.

Ultimately, he’s again played a big role in Wolves picking up all three points.
