Gabby Agbonlahor predicts where this current Wolves squad would finish in the Championship

Wolves seem almost destined for relegation this season, as they have just two points from 15 games, and Gabby Agbonlahor has delivered a damning jab to the current side.

You will find it hard to find an Old Gold supporter who believes Rob Edwards can turn things around. 13 points off safety seems too big a gap for this side to overcome.

Inside Wolves, the feeling is that relegation will happen, and that is a damning indictment of the way Fosun has run the club.

The owners are prepared to have a ‘good go’ at instant promotion, but after the recent summer window, which has left the squad in a terrible state, that will not provide fans with much hope.

And the strength of the squad has received yet another blow after Gabby Agbonlahor’s prediction for the Championship.

How many points will Wolves end up on this season?

Gabby Agbonlahor delivers worrying assessment of Wolves’ squad in Championship claim

Gabby Agbonlahor has not held back on his view of Wolves after their match against Manchester United.

It was a tough evening for the Old Gold, as they fell to a 4-1 loss at Molineux. Rob Edwards described his team as like playing a ‘kids game’ at times, and that was ultimately the story of the game.

The Wanderers were bested by a side that dominated them, and other than Jean-Ricner Bellegarde’s equaliser, they never looked to be in the game.

Now, Gabby Agbonlahor has delivered a damning verdict on the status of Wolves’ squad.

Speaking via talkSPORT, Agbonlahor said, “This Wolves side now, finish bottom half of the Championship. That is not a crazy statement; they really would. They have been so poor; their recruitment has been horrendous.

“You replace Cunha, and look who you have replaced him with: players that don’t want to get on the ball. Number 10s who don’t want to receive it – players were hiding for the first goal [against Man United].

“Andre had the ball, looking for someone; no one wants it, and he loses it, and United go and score. Wolves for me now will break Derby’s record.”

Is Gabby Agbonlahor correct in his assessment of Wolves’ squad?

Whether or not you agree with the former Aston Villa man’s opinion about the Championship, he is right that the recruitment has been poor.

And in order to avoid his statement coming true, the upcoming transfer window needs to be a resounding success for the Old Gold.

Wolves’ January window needs to have the Championship in mind

Wolves need to sign players to improve things at the club, and with survival constantly getting further away, it might be wise to make them with next season in mind.

The Wanderers will want to return to the Premier League as soon as possible, and they must get the right blend of quality and top-level Championship stars right.

There is sure to be an exodus of players when relegation is confirmed, and in order to avoid a full summer overhaul, the work to build a promotion-battling squad should start now.

Ultimately, the Wanderers cannot afford to wait; the Championship is one of the most competitive leagues in the world, and early planning could make all the difference.

There has already been a recruitment shift, and Rob Edwards is fully on board with it.
