Gabby Agbonlahor makes bold Wolves vs Leeds prediction, it hasn’t happened in 21 years

Wolves host Leeds United at Molineux on Saturday afternoon, in what is shaping up to be an early relegation six-pointer, and Gabby Agbonlahor has given his prediction for the game.

With zero points from four games, Wolves are in desperate need of a result. Despite the poor start, Vitor Pereira is in line for a new contract, but pressure could still start to build on him.

Fans of the club have questioned the timing of Pereira’s new deal, and if the Old Gold do not pick up three points against Leeds, that could only further frustrate them.

Ahead of the fixture, former Premier League striker Gabby Agbonlahor gave his predictions for this weekend’s games, and when it came to Wolves vs Leeds, he has predicted something that has not happened for 21 years.

Wolves first-half performance vs Newcastle was much better than any of their displays this season so far.

The switch to a 3-5-2 worked wonders for the Old Gold, and they were perhaps unfortunate to go a goal down at St. James’ Park at that point. However, across the whole 90 minutes, the Geordies deserved to win.

The Wanderers must bounce back, and they need to beat Leeds, but Gabby Agbonlahor has predicted them to miss out on three points once more

The former Premier League player was speaking on talkSPORT, and said, “Wolves need to win, it is a must win game, if you are Leeds you say the pressure is not on us, we have four points from four games.

“There are four teams below us with less points, and Wolves will be expected to win this, and they have made some decent signings at Wolves but the players need to start performing, but it has a 0-0 all over it.”

It is not an outrageous prediction from the 38-year-old, as both Wolves and Leeds have failed to hit the target in three of their four Premier League games so far.

Wolves head into the game with a poor record against Leeds, and they’ll be hoping to rectify that record this weekend.

However, a goalless match between these two sides is something that hasn’t happened often, and hasn’t happened in a while either.

Last 0-0 draw in Wolves vs Leeds was in 2004

The last time Wolves and Leeds competed in a goalless draw with each other was back in August of 2004 with both clubs sat in the Championship.

There have been 22 meetings since that date, and each of those has featured at least one goal scored. In fact, in the total 104 fixtures between the clubs, there has only ever been nine 0-0 draws.

While it is an unlikely occurrence, there has never been a more probable time for it to happen. Both teams have struggled to score so far this season, with just two scored for Wolves and one scored for Leeds.

Additionally, Leeds’ games this season have barely seen any attempts on goal. They have had the fewest shots on goal (8) and also facing the joint-third fewest shots on their goal (11).

Saturday’s fixture is certainly not shaping up to be a goal-fest, but with the game likely to be tight, Vitor Pereira’s side definitely have a chance to come away with a result.

Being on home turf will be a major advantage in coming out of their goalscoring issues.
