Gabby Agbonlahor gives a surprisingly optimistic view on Wolves’ next few fixtures

While Wolves’ next five games do not offer much hope for fans, former Aston Villa forward Gabby Agbonlahor has given a surprisingly positive view.

It is not an ideal start for Rob Edwards, as the Old Gold’s fixtures are far from kind. But when you are in the position the Wanderers are in, each match will be difficult.

It is understandable that Wolves fans are not confident about the upcoming weeks; however, there could be a glimmer of hope.

Rob Edwards always starts strongly when starting a new role, and now Gabby Agbonlahor believes the new head coach could pick up some surprising points over the next few weeks.

Despite the tough run of fixtures, Gabby Agbonlahor thinks Wolves can get something out of them.

The first game of that run is Crystal Palace at home, and the former Premier League forward believes the arrival of Rob Edwards could aid them.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Agbonlahor said, “What do you reckon, Jeff, about Wolves? They are on two points after 11 games, and you look at their next fixtures: Crystal Palace at home on the weekend. You can win that, you know, the new manager bounce.

“Aston Villa away – it is a derby game; anything can happen. Nottingham Forest at home. Manchester United at home and then Arsenal away, and their sixth game is Brentford at home. You look at those games and say, ‘Wolves, there is your chance; show us what you got.'”

Unfortunately, the optimism from Agbonlahor stops there, as the Englishman still believes Wolves will be one of the three that go down alongside Burnley and Leeds.

However, based on this week’s fixtures, getting that ‘new manager bounce’ could spark life into the relegation fight for Wolves, and perhaps over the coming weeks opinions will start to shift.

How many points will Wolves end up on this season?

A win against Crystal Palace would be huge for Wolves

If Wolves can get all three points against Crystal Palace, there is a reality where the rest of their relegation rivals all drop points.

Each of the bottom six all face teams where they will be seen as the underdog, and it presents a great opportunity for the Molineux side.

With victory on Saturday and results in other fixtures going their way, the Old Gold could end the weekend five points off safety.

That would be a much better outlook and would provide Rob Edwards and Wolves just a small glimmer of hope they can pull off an escape, and Hwang Hee-chan is quite confident that Wolves can do so.
