Fresh hope over Angel Gomes stay after midfielder’s latest Wolves verdict

Angel Gomes may well have provided some fresh hope of Wolves signing him permanently this summer.

After joining the club in the mid-season transfer window, Gomes has wasted little time settling in at Molineux.

Eyebrows were raised when Wolves managed to land the former Manchester United youngster given their league position.

Some have said that Gomes merely made the move to get minutes into his legs, and perhaps place himself in the shop window for a move elsewhere this summer.

But Gomes’ latest verdict on life at the club may indicate that a permanent move is not out of the question.

Speaking via the Wolves website, Gomes said: “Rob’s been great for me. I’ve seen the transition he’s also gone through, from being together in the 20s.

“He’s obviously the same guy and has a real drive and ambition, and he wants to see the club really succeed. Since I’ve been in, it’s been really refreshing.

“I’ve loved the experience so far being here, everyone’s made me feel really settled and, for me, that was important.

“The attention to detail since I’ve been back has been really good. I obviously know that the situation for the club has been difficult for the players, but the vibe and the camp has been great. It’s been really positive so far.”

That immediate sense of belonging matters for any mid-season signing.

Gomes has made it clear that settling quickly was a priority, and that has already happened within weeks of his arrival, which is a testament to Rob Edwards and the environment he’s created.

Gomes would be amazing for Wolves in the Championship

Wolves do hold an option to make Gomes’ move permanent, but for that option to be triggered the player needs to give the green light.

But the positive verdict from Gomes about life at Wolves does potentially point to him giving that green light.

And Wolves would surely have no qualms about paying the money, thought to be around £6 million.

Keeping Gomes would be a big deal for Wanderers, given the club are almost certain to be playing in the Championship next season.

The goal would obviously be to come straight back up, and having a player of Gomes’ quality would help massively.

Thierry Henry talked up Gomes’ impact against Brentford before the international break, saying he changed the game after he came on.

To have someone who can dictate play, with Andre likely to depart, would be most ideal.
