Brendan Rodgers and Gary O’Neil have emerged as the immediate contenders to replace Vitor Pereira at Wolves following his sacking on Sunday morning.
Jeff Shi confirmed the departure of Pereira via a statement, and the hunt for a new head coach is underway.
Molineux News understands Brendan Rodgers would consider the Wolves job, and the speculation has had fans reacting to the potential appointment of the Northern Irishman.
A return for Gary O’Neil has also been touted, and that would be a remarkable decision by Jeff Shi and Fosun to give the job to the man they sacked just a year ago.
The two contenders are likely appealing due to Wolves not having to buy them out of a current contract, as the pair are on the free agent market.
However, should both of these names fall through, and if Wolves need to look elsewhere, there are plenty of other free agents.

Vitor Bruno
Replacing one Vitor with another Vitor was not on the bingo card.
Vitor Bruno has only managed one club, and that was for a spell of just seven months at Porto before being sacked.
He is not the most inspiring name out there, but he has popped up quite a bit on social media amid discussions.
Additionally, Wolves do love a Portuguese head coach, although this one is not on Jorge Mendes’ client list.
Vitor Bruno would be a massive risk considering his experience.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has done a great job with Manchester United despite how his time ended.
He led the club to a 2nd place finish and got them to a Europa League final, and his style of football was exciting to watch.
He is currently available on the market after being let go by Besiktas earlier in the summer, and his Norwegian connection with Jorgen Strand Larsen could get Wolves’ star man firing.
There will of course be concerns about his time as Cardiff City manager and how he handled their relegation fight, but it has been a long time since, and he has undoubtedly learnt many lessons.
Lucien Favre
The Swiss manager would be a wildcard shout from Fosun, as he has not managed since 2023.
However, he is known for his well-organised sides that are difficult to break down, while also wanting his teams to be quick in attack.
It would be an exciting appointment, but we are not quite sure Jeff Shi would even consider it. His experience, while it has not been in the same situations as Wolves, could be an advantage.
He has been a manager for over 30 years, managing teams such as Borussia Dortmund, Borussia Monchengladbach, and OGC Nice during that time.
He would likely hit all three checkpoints the next Wolves manager must complete.
Sam Allardyce
When you hire Big Sam that can only mean one thing: you desperately need to survive relegation, and that is the situation that Wolves are in.
Allardyce is a relegation specialist, and he has been in the position Wolves are in many times before, and that could be the experience they need.
The football would not be great, but when you have to get results, surely that is worth the sacrifice?

He has not taken on a job since 2023, and it is unclear if he even wants to get back into the managerial business.
However, he could be worth a punt. What is there to lose by hiring the best survival option on the market?
