Former Wolves star Adama Traore now relives his most ‘agonising’ moment at Molineux

Former Wolves winger Adama Traore has now relived the most ‘agonising’ moment he experienced during his time at Molineux.

Adama Traore will always be remembered fondly by the supporters during his five years at Wolves.

Signed for £18 million following the Old Gold’s return to the Premier League in 2018, the powerful Spanish winger went on to make 194 appearances, scoring 14 and assisting 18.

Traore was part of Wolves’ most successful period in recent years, as they recorded back-to-back seventh-place finishes under Nuno Espirito Santo and played in the Europa League.

The former Barcelona man was part of a golden generation of players, which included Raul Jimenez, Joao Moutinho, Ruben Neves, Rui Patricio and Diogo Jota.

Traore left Wolves to join Fulham in 2023 after rejecting a £100k-a-week contract offer, and while most of his time in the Midlands was enjoyable, he’s since reflected on a moment that left him and everyone else fearing the worst.

Adama Traore relives Raul Jimenez’s injury vs Arsenal

In Wolves Premier League clash against Arsenal in November 2020, an incident involving striker Jimenez occurred that left the Mexican fighting for his life.

Jimenez suffered a sickening head injury that fractured his skull and sidelined him for eight months.

The 33-year-old – who scored 57 goals in 166 appearances in gold – admitted that doctors told him it was a ‘miracle’ he survived the injury but the iconic striker always knew he’d eventually return, doing so in July 2021.

Reflecting on such an ‘agonising’ moment, Traore has explained how he felt while on the pitch.

“It was a very sad day because, as a player, as a teammate and as Raúl, the most important thing for me was that he was okay. It was quite hard, I heard the ‘crack’ of the crash, how he screamed like he was dying, it was very hard,” Traore said via Medio Tiempo.

“We were asking the doctor if Raúl was okay, what was wrong, what had happened to him. When we entered the locker room, it was all silence, with stares on the floor. It was pretty tough.

“It was a shame about the injury, I don’t remember if he had scored 17 goals, big clubs came looking for him. Raúl has always been an incredible, complete player. We don’t know what would have happened if he hadn’t been injured, but what makes me happy is that he has been able to return to football, score goals and be happy with his family.”

How Raul Jimenez and Adama Traore are getting on at Fulham

Before suffering the devastating injury, every Wolves fan will remember how good Jimenez was. In 2018/19, the Mexico international fired 13 Premier League goals and then bettered that total by four in the following.

In the 2020/21 campaign, meanwhile, Jimenez had four goals in 10 appearances before that game against Arsenal in November, but he never quite recovered following that injury.

He scored just nine goals in 66 appearances and needed a new lease of life, with Fulham offering him a fresh start by completing a double swoop for both Jimenez and Traore in 2023.

It wasn’t the easiest first season for the pair, producing just 12 goal involvements between them however, they’ve since recaptured some of their best form.

While Wolves are struggling at the bottom, Fulham are flying under Marco Silva in eighth position with Traore scoring once and assisting twice and Jimenez plundering three goals in seven matches.
