Some Wolves fans will vaguely remember Michal Zyro, and last night the former Molineux player went viral for an interview he conducted with Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk.
Last night in the Champions League, Liverpool took on Real Madrid in their latest League Phase match.
Madrid came into the game expected to win, having been in much better form.
But it was Liverpool who took all three points courtesy of an Alexis Mac Allister goal in the second-half at Anfield.
After the game, Virgil van Dijk did a round of interviews, and was quizzed by none other than former Wolves player Zyro – and found their exchange heartwarming.
Virgil van Dijk interviewed by former Wolves player Michal Zyro

Van Dijk has been at Liverpool for many years now, but before joining the Reds he was at Southampton and before that, Celtic.
And it was with Celtic that van Dijk once came up against Zyro, who played for Legia Warsaw. Last night, Zyro interviewed van Dijk and brought up that meeting many years ago.
Zyro said: “I’m really happy to see you.”
Van Dijk replied: “So you scored two goals back then and now you interview me!”
Zyro said: “Yeah, because I joined Wolverhampton for the next two to three years and I got really bad injury there by the knee.”
Van Dijk: “Sorry to hear.”
Zyro: “But I really enjoy being here and it’s really special to speak with you.”
Van Dijk responded: “As long as you are happy that’s the most important thing. So keep doing what you’re doing.”
Fans lapped up the interview from, praising van Dijk especially for his classy words.
How Zyro fared at Wolves

Zyro joined Wolves back in January 2016 from Polish side Legia Warsaw on the watch of Kenny Jackett, who said of his new recruit at the time: “He is left-footed, 6ft 3ins and, with his physique and his power, can play in any of the four forward positions
“Most of his time has been playing 4-3-3 – either wide right or left – and he is strong in the air.”
10 days after signing, he scored his first goals for Wolves – a brace against Fulham in the Championship. Days later he followed that up with a goal against Cardiff City in the 3-1 loss.
Unfortunately, Zyro would score no more goals for the Old Gold – because injuries then wrecked his time at Molineux.
He picked up a calf issue that ruled him out for around six weeks and then after returning, he sustained a much more serious injury to his knee.
Against MK Dons he sustained knee ligament damage which ruled him out for around 16 months.
Zyro made just two more appearances for Wolves after coming back from that, and after a few loan spells, he left the club in 2019 to join Korona Kielce back in his homeland.
He then played for a string of other Polish clubs before retiring in 2024. Zyro, now 33, then took up a career in broadcasting.
