Former Wolves player makes Mateus Mane claim that will not land well with supporters

Mateus Mane has been a breakthrough star for Wolves this season, but a claim made by a former Old Gold player may infuriate some supporters.

The 18-year-old attacker has no doubt changed the Wanderers’ fortunes. Since he has come into the side, performance levels have increased, with Mane entering Wolves’ history books in the process.

Rob Edwards has hailed Mane as a leader in that perspective, and the academy graduate’s teammates believe he can become one of the best in the Premier League.

However, now one former Wolves man has made an outlandish claim about the talent which will certainly not be well received.

Valid or outright crazy? Where do you place Mateus Mane among academy graduates at Wolves?

Micky Gray claims Mateus Mane will not be at Wolves in the summer

Micky Gray played 47 games for Wolves from 2007 to 2009 and was part of the Mick McCarthy side that secured Premier League promotion.

The left-back, who could also play left midfield, only featured 21 times that season and would end up leaving the club in the next January window after Wolves’ top-flight return.

However, the player who once donned the Old Gold kit has now made a claim about Mateus Mane that certainly will not bode well with supporters.

With Wolves looking destined for relegation, there was quite a bit of discussion about the young talent’s future.

Gray, speaking on talkSPORT when talking about if Mane will be in the Championship next season, replied, “No, absolutely not.”

“He’s got too much talent to be playing Championship football. I love to see young players who are given the opportunity and say, ‘I’m going to make the difference’.

“He’s played well in two games against Liverpool and Manchester United, but today he’s topped it off with a goal… the first of his professional career. He is some player!” Gray continued on to say.

With plenty of football still to be played, Wolves are not relegated yet, even if that looks the most likely outcome.

However, if the three games against Liverpool, Manchester United, and West Ham are signs to go by, they are not giving up without a fight.

Even if the Old Gold do go down, Gray’s claim may not have much substance now.

Wolves hold the power with Mateus Mane after new contract

Fortunately for Wolves, the recently shared information about Mateus Mane’s new contract means they hold all the cards.

The Wanderers will not be bullied into selling one of their top prospects, as the player is contracted to Wolves until 2029, and Vitor Pereira may deserve some credit for that.

Mateus Mane is said to be contracted to Wolves until 2029, not 2027! Thoughts, Wolves fans?

It's been claimed today that Wolves tied him down to an extended deal when he turned 18 👀

His previous deal, which ran out in 2027, could have left them vulnerable to tempting offers for the forward. He would have had just one year left in the summer, and if they could not get him to extend, they may have cashed in.

However, that possibility is out of the question, and Mateus Mane looks set to stay at the club. If Fosun let him leave, the reaction from the fanbase would be filled with vitriol.
