Former Wolves manager Vitor Pereira on verge of becoming Nottingham Forest boss

Vitor Pereira is on the verge of returning to the Premier League with Nottingham Forest, after Wolves held the Reds at The City Ground.

Nottingham Forest’s decision to part ways with Sean Dyche after a goalless draw against Wolves left them scrambling for a new head coach.

But they have moved quickly, with Evangelos Marinakis turning to Pereira, who was sacked by Wolves back in October. Given his history with Forest owner, the appointment makes sense.

According to Sky Sports, Pereira has ‘agreed’ to succeed Dyche at Forest.

For Wolves fans, this impending appointment of Pereira at Forest is a curious development. While his time at Molineux was short-lived, Pereira’s impact was significant, helping the club stave off relegation in the 2024/25 season. His departure left some unfinished business, and seeing him take the reins at a fellow Premier League struggler will be fascinating.

Pereira’s tenure at Wolves was nothing short of a rollercoaster. Brought in to rescue the club from the brink of relegation, he delivered a remarkable turnaround.

However, his subsequent season was much less fruitful, leading to his dismissal after failing to secure a win in the opening ten games of the current campaign.

It seems, though, his ability to galvanise a struggling side is what Forest are banking on.

Wolves supporters will remember Pereira’s tactical nous and his ability to instil a fighting spirit within the squad. But they also won’t forget how far short he fell this season.

His move to Forest is a chance for him to prove his mettle once more in the Premier League, albeit with a different club.

Pereira is a big gamble for Forest after Wolves woes

It really will be fascinating to see how Pereira – who was linked with the Gremio job shortly after his sacking by Wolves – does.

Obviously last season, we saw him come to Wolves and have a superb impact. He totally changed the picture at Molineux, and guided the club to safety with ease in the end.

He had fans eating out of the palm of his hand, and generated a lot of talk with his ‘First the points, then the pints’ phrase.

But the results he delivered at Wolves this season were atrocious, and will be a big part of why the club will suffer relegation.

He had a major say in recruitment along with his right-hand man Domenico Teti, which will prove costly.

He can’t make signings at Forest and must work with what he’s got at his disposal, but this may well suit him.
