Oftentimes it is Wolves on the receiving end of a poor VAR or referee decision, but against Newcastle, it was the Old Gold who perhaps got away with one this time.
In the first half Harvey Barnes raced through on goal, and Wolves’ Yerson Mosquera appeared to connect his elbow to Barnes’ face, preventing the winger from having a shot on goal.
However, there was no foul awarded, and thus no cards shown for the Colombian defender. VAR never intervened in the decision, and play continued.
The incident sparked debate with former Wolves man Gary Breen suggesting the decision was wrong, and now two former English referees have given their opinion.
Interestingly, both of them disagree with each other.
Keith Hackett says Wolves’ Yerson Mosquera should have been sent-off

Keith Hackett is a former English referee who has officiated some of England’s biggest games.
Hackett has been involved as an official in numerous FA Cup finals, and he has now delivered his opinion on the controversial decision in Wolves’ 1-0 loss to Newcastle.
Speaking on his X account, Hackett said, “Clear foul and fulfilled DOGSO (Denial of a Goalscoring Opportunity) so red card.”
However, another former referee did not agree with Hackett’s assessment of the incident.
Dermot Gallagher says it was a foul by Yerson Mosquera but not a red-card
Dermot Gallagher, on the other hand, did not feel that a red card was the right choice here.
Speaking on Sky Sports’ Ref Watch, Gallagher said, “I think it’s a foul and a yellow card, but it’s not in the penalty area. I don’t think it’s a penalty.
“Barnes is not in possession of the ball. Definitely foul, but just a yellow card.”

Although the result did not go their way, Old Gold fans might find solace in the fact that a decision perhaps went their way this time.
Only recently, a panel said VAR made a huge error as Wolves lost 3-2 to Everton, and that could still be fresh in their minds.
However, Vitor Pereira will be hoping his side can start putting points on the board without relying on officials.
