Forget Matheus Cunha, another Wolves star is rubbing shoulders with Kevin De Bruyne and Mo Salah in 2025

Wolves have been much improved of late under Vitor Pereira.

Following a run of three straight wins, Wanderers have pulled clear of the relegation zone and are now 12 points clear of the drop.

Vitor Pereira has done a sterling job, and has managed to get a tune out of so many players who were not performing under the previous manager.

One player who has really come to life in recent weeks is Jean-Ricner Bellegarde.

Bellegarde scooped Wolves’ Player of the Month award for February and has continued to shine, taking advantage of the recent suspension of Matheus Cunha.

And now, one statistic has emerged that really does show how good – and specifically, creative – Bellegarde has been.

Bellegarde struggled in his first season at Wolves.

There were several reasons for this, but the main one was that he often had to play out wide.

Bellegarde is an attacking midfielder by trade, but can also play from box to box. So his best work comes when he picks up inside positions.

He’s also done quite well in Cunha’s position in recent weeks, although again, he has tended to play inside rather than right out on the left.

And Bellegarde has been a creative spark for Wolves this calendar year.

So far, he’s created six ‘big chances’ in 2025. That is the same number as Kevin De Bruyne, who is one of the all-time great playmakers in the Premier League.

And there are only a handful of players – including Liverpool superstar Mo Salah – ahead of Bellegarde in this metric so far this calendar year.

So it really does indicate how productive the Frenchman has been for Wolves lately.

Bellegarde set for prominent role at Wolves

It is hugely satisfying to see Bellegarde finally thriving at Wolves.

It was difficult for him last season as the player just couldn’t build any real momentum, and that led to some feeling he wasn’t good enough.

In 2025 Bellegarde has really shown what he can offer, and it’s clear the manager really likes what he brings to the table.

Vitor Pereira admitted he had doubts about Bellegarde positionally initially, but now seens his value and loves how versatile he is.

It’s not out of the question Bellegarde could perhaps become Wolves’ next number 10 when Cunha leaves this summer, and given his much improved creativity of late, he would certainly be a fitting choice for that number.
