Five goal contributions, five games; £17m Wolves player is already catching the eye out on loan

Daniel Podence has enjoyed a pretty fruitful start to life on loan at his former club Olympiacos.

The Wolves winger sealed a move to the Greek giants at the start of last month.

Podence had been away from the Wolves first-team.

He played no part in pre-season, and Gary O’Neil had said that the 27–year-old did not share Wolves’ goals.

In the end, his exit was facilitated.

Podence left while extending his contract at Molineux.

And so far, it’s been a good start for the Portuguese attacker…

Four of those have come in the Super League, and one has come in the Europa League.

Podence immediately grabbed an assist on his debut against AEK Athens in a 1-1 draw.

After getting 45 minutes against Freiburg in the Europa League, he then grabbed a goal and an assist against AE Kifisias.

And at the weekend, Podence came in clutch.

He hit a brace in a 3-0 win, and was described as the ‘standout’ by an English source on X, formerly Twitter, that covers Olympiacos, Gate 7 International. The account also says he was easily man of the match.

That’s five goal contributions in five games for Podence, who is still not 100% following his lack of a pre-season.

Podence early form a positive for Wolves

Wolves officials will be pleased with this.

Ideally, £17 million man Podence will enjoy a productive season over in Greece so that Wolves can then perhaps sell for a decent price next summer.

So in theory, he could perhaps come back into the fold at Molineux.

But it felt very much as though Podence did not want to be at Wolves, given the comments from O’Neil.

So unless there is a significant change, Wolves are surely looking at selling the 27-year-old next year.
