Fiorentina confirm the appointment of Gennaro Gattuso, after recent Wolves links

The search for a new manager for Wolverhampton Wanderers is now in full swing, but one man recently linked will definitely not be pitching up at Molineux.

There has been a number of reports in recent months speculating about his future given his contract was expiring in June.

In the last couple of months, Gattuso’s name has actually been linked with Wolves.

TMW said in March that the former World Cup winner was under consideration by the Wolves board.

That article came at a time when Wolves were very much struggling for results in the Premier League.

But Gattuso, 43, will not be heading to the Black Country, as it has just been confirmed that he will become the new head coach of Fiorentina.

It has been suggested that Sergio Conceicao – another man linked with Wolves – could replace Gattuso at Napoli.

Interestingly, Paulo Fonseca has been linked with both Fiorentina (Football Italia) and Wolves (Mirror) in recent days and one wonders if this development could now push him further into contention to replace Nuno Espirito Santo.

It would have been a risk

Who knows if Fosun really did have interest in Gattuso.

His move to Fiorentina should not come as a disappointment though.

His Napoli side played some great football, but he would have been a bit of a risky appointment.
