Fer Lopez’s Wolves situation becomes clear just days before the January transfer window

Wolves have several key decisions to make ahead of the January transfer window, including the situation with Fer Lopez.

Rob Edwards‘ next big challenge at Wolves will be to sort out the mess in the first-team squad right now in the January transfer window.

Relegation from the Premier League is looking extremely likely, which opens the door for players to potentially jump ship, with interest building around a few big names.

Jorgen Strand Larsen and Joao Gomes are being linked with West Ham, whilst Jackson Tchatchoua is tipped to potentially make a return to Italy with Juventus or Inter Milan.

This is the situation Wolves now find themselves in. A complete overhaul of the squad is required, as there are very few players who have made a good account of themselves this season.

Will Wolves get £40m for Strand Larsen or is that wishful thinking? 👀

Wolves’ stance on Fer Lopez ahead of the January transfer window

Fer Lopez is yet to really kickstart his Wolves career after joining from Celta Vigo during the summer transfer window.

The sporting director at Celta Vigo has revealed his desire to bring the attacking midfielder back to Spain, but nothing is concrete at this stage.

But a report from The Athletic has shed some more light on Lopez’s situation.

Steve Madeley states that it is likely Wolves will look to send him back to Spain for the second half of the season.

The hope would be that regular game-time would enhance his reputation ahead of either a return to Wolves in the Championship, another loan, or a potential sale next summer.

Has Fer Lopez done enough to stay at Wolves?

He has made 10 appearances across all competitions, recording zero goals and only one assist.

However, he has largely been used as a substitute, making only three starts in total.

While the club still values his long-term potential, he hasn’t done enough in a struggling side. A loan move in January appears to be the most likely path to save his Wolves career in the long run.

One of his main issues is the physicality of the Premier League. He was pushed off the ball on a number of occasions against Brentford, and struggled to really hold onto the ball when in possession.
