Fer Lopez on target in 3-2 win as Wolves loanee boosts Celta Vigo’s hopes of Europe

Wolves player Fer Lopez made a big impact today for Celta Vigo, helping to boost their hopes of European football.

Fer Lopez is currently on loan with the Spanish outfit, after rejoining them in January.

Lopez had barely featured for Wolves, with neither Vitor Pereira nor Rob Edwards deeming him worthy of regular minutes.

So the decision was taken for him to head out on loan.

The rationale was for Lopez to go to a familiar environment and hopefully get much more involvement.

That has been the case, and today he really came through for Celta.

Lopez actually scored on his first game back for Celta after leaving Wolves on loan.

And that goal against Red Star Belgrade went viral for how beautiful it was, with Lopez finding the top corner.

That was in January and he had not found the net since – until today

Earlier, Celta took on Valencia at the Mestalla Stadium, and picked up a big three points with a 3-2 victory.

And Lopez – who came on for Celta at half-time – scored in the 60th minute, lashing home into the top corner from inside the box, after controlling the ball with his weak foot from a left-side cross.

Fer Lopez vs Valencia
Minutes played – 45
Touches – 28
Goals – 1
Passes completed – 13/18 (72%)
Duels won – 1/3 (33%)
Defensive actions – 2

That made it 2-1, with Williot Swedberg making it 3-1 on 81 minutes.

Guido Rodriguez pulled onc back with a couple of minutes to go, but Celta hung on for the victory.

The result puts them onto 44 points, just one behind Real Betis in fifth.

Fer Lopez wants to stay at Celta

No doubt that was a great moment for Lopez, in what has been a frustrating season for him.

To be fighting for European football is surely a lot more fun than scrapping down at the bottom of the table, so it will be very interesting to see what happens with Lopez this summer.

Because it’s already been suggested that Lopez would like to stay put at Celta, who are keen to re-sign the player at least on loan again next season.

It remains to be seen though if Wolves will allow that. Because the club forked out nearly Β£20 million to sign him last summer.

Certainly if Celta get European football, it’s hard to see Lopez wanting to rush back to Molineux.
