Wolves’ summer signing Fer Lopez hasn’t held back when revealing his hopes for the 2026/27 campaign.
The forward arrived at Molineux from Celta Vigo in July, becoming Vitor Pereira’s first signing of the summer.
Lopez has been linking well with Jorgen Strand Larsen in pre-season, which bodes well for the future.
Already, Pereira is very impressed with Lopez, who he insists could play for England’s ‘top clubs’, but first, the Spaniard has a story to write at Wolves.

Fer Lopez hopes Wolves qualify for Europe
Lopez is excited to play in front of Wolves fans, with supporters also eager to see what the 21-year-old can do in the Premier League.
There are big shoes for the youngster to fill, but he’s certainly up to the task, not only with his ability but also with how ambitious he is.
A supercomputer thinks Wolves will finish in 17th, but Lopez has his eyes set on a much higher finishing spot.
Speaking to Wolves’ official website after the Old Gold’s defeat to Celta Vigo, the playmaker set his sights on a European finish.
“It was amazing to see them again,” Lopez said in reaction to playing his former club.
“I already went to the hotel yesterday to speak with them, and now I’m going to the dressing room to hand our shirts and everything, and it was amazing to see them.
“Let’s hope we can play together in Europe next season.”
Celta Vigo went from flirting with relegation to fighting for a European spot, so Lopez’s aspirations won’t seem too far-fetched for him, but some fans might disagree.
Pereira is aiming for a mid-table finish, understanding the challenges that will confront Wolves, but Lopez is dreaming of much more.
Fosun have Wolves on a tight leash
It won’t be Pereira stopping Wolves from fighting for the highs of competing in Europe, but those above the boss.
Time and time again, competent coaches have shown they can get their respective Wolves squads kicking, but the transfer window comes and key players are sold with no replacement.
Season | Final position | Manager |
2018/19 | 7th | Nuno Espirito Santo |
2019/20 | 7th | Nuno Espirito Santo |
2020/21 | 13th | Nuno Espirito Santo |
2021/22 | 10th | Bruno Lage |
2022/23 | 13th | Julen Lopetegui |
2023/24 | 14th | Gary O’Neil |
2024/25 | 16th | Vitor Pereira |
Fosun’s lack of investment and desire to push the self-sustainable model is detrimental to the football and, ultimately, hinders the possibility of progression.
It was only in the 2023/24 season that Gary O’Neil was asked about a European finish, which was unable to be delivered due to key sales and then stale tactics.
Wolves players will dare to dream, as will fans, but with Fosun’s tight leash, such thoughts feel fantastical.
