Fer Lopez became Wolves’ first signing of the summer after completing a transfer from Celta Vigo.
The 21-year-old will be sorely missed in Spain on the back of his breakthrough season, where he became a highly valued player at the Estadio de Balaidos.
Celta Vigo fans aren’t overly happy with Lopez for leaving the club, as there was a belief that the midfielder would go on to become an icon.
Instead, the Spaniard made the move to Molineux, following the same route as Jorgen Strand Larsen did the summer prior, but Lopez wasn’t particularly longing for a move.

When Fer Lopez discussed his Wolves transfer
Strand Larsen played a part in Lopez’s transfer to Wolves, selling Vitor Pereira’s project to his former teammate.
For Lopez, the transfer was a huge step forward in his budding career, but it wasn’t something he considered until the 2024/25 calendar had ended.
Speaking to Express and Star at Wolves’ pre-season training camp in Portugal, Lopez shared his stance on the transfer and when discussions with his representatives actually happened.
“At the end of the season, because I always tell my agent that if the season is going, I don’t want anything that is not football,” Lopez assured.
“When the season finishes, he keeps me up to date. When I’m playing, I want to be 100 per cent focused on football and not things outside of football.”
The Spaniard insisted that when there are games to play and hurdles to overcome, his mind couldn’t be further from the transfer window.
“It’s what makes me happy and what I enjoy doing, so that’s why I try to focus on it 100 per cent.
“I always do a lot of things outside of football also, but in terms of transfers and things like that, I don’t want to know until the season finishes.”
Lopez made it clear that he attempts to keep outside factors ‘away’ as much as possible when the season is in progress, which is the polar opposite of one former Wolves player.

Lopez is the opposite of Matheus Cunha
Lopez paid no attention to transfer speculation until the end of the season, something Matheus Cunha can’t relate to.
In March, when Wolves still weren’t safe from relegation, Cunha made his desire to leave public, partaking in an interview with the Guardian.
Wolves fans weren’t impressed with Cunha’s actions, as the Brazilian’s mind was on his next move, so much so that he reportedly wanted a move wrapped up before the season ended.
Unlike Lopez, Pereira’s former maverick had his mind firmly on his next club before the 2024/25 season had ended, which undoubtedly lowered the mood when the time came for him to move on.
Fans compared Cunha’s exit to Rayan Ait-Nouri’s, as the Algerian departed soon after the 26-year-old, but conducted his move discreetly.
When the football starts, there’s nothing else on Lopez’s mind, something a fair few players today could learn from.
