Fenerbahce fans are all in agreement after Nelson Semedo’s debut

After leaving Wolves as a free agent, Nelson Semedo made his first appearance for new club Fenerbahce.

It was sad to see Nelson Semedo leave this summer after five years of service at Molineux.

Despite being offered a four-year contract by Wolves, the Portuguese right-back decided to seek a new challenge, citing Jose Mourinho and European football as his reasons.

His departure has left a hole in Vitor Pereira’s side, but last season’s captain did not leave on bad terms. Semedo posted an emotional goodbye message thanking the club and the fans for supporting him during his time in Wolverhampton.

His first appearance for his new club was a Champions League qualifier against Feyenoord, and his new supporters have given their verdict on the performance.

Fenerbahce fans praise Nelson Semedo after Feyenoord match

Despite losing the match in injury time, Fenerbahce fans were full of praise for their new signing.

One fan appreciated the impact Semedo had off the bench, saying: “What Oğuz couldn’t do in 70 minutes, he did in 20 minutes. Amazing transfer.”

Another fan seconded: “The impression is nice, after a long time we saw a decent guy walking on the right, thank goodness.”

Fenerbahce fans clearly haven’t been happy with that position, with another claiming: “Semedo is a top-notch transfer. Finally, we’ve got a right-back who doesn’t play backward or sideways when he gets the ball.”

Many fans were quick to acknowledge his signing as great business.

“The director gave hope, it’s good”. In the same sentiment, another remarked: “The most accurate transfer made.”

One fan is already convinced by the deal, saying: “One of the best opportunity transfers of the year. It would have caused trouble if it had gone to our rivals who lack fullbacks.”

Semedo’s quality, which Wolves fans have appreciated for years, is going down very well with the new fanbase. Some fans aren’t shy about stating it either: “Physical compatibility and feet so good they’ll dominate the league.”

Despite not having much joy going forward, it apparently wasn’t Semedo’s fault, as this fan explains:

“If he played with Tadic, he’d put on a show. Tried to make 3 or 4 give-and-go plays, but there’s no one in the team to make that pass. His speed and game intelligence seem good.”

And to really put an exclamation point on the verdict from Turkey, this fan makes a bold claim: “The best right-back to come to the country. Don’t forget this tweet, bro.”

Nelson Semedo’s replacement search isn’t going well at Wolves

Finding the next right-back has been a challenge at Molineux this summer.

Wolves were in for Marc Pubill, but Atletico Madrid had other ideas. An agreement was reached for Juanlu Sanchez before he decided he didn’t want Wolves.

Jackson Tchatchoua was linked to Wolves as well, but that fell through just like the rest.

One possibility is not replacing Semedo, though it seems risky given the lack of experience to fill the role. Rodrigo Gomes wants to play there, but is unproven. The same can be said for Ki-Jana Hoever, who had a good pre-season but is also inconsistent.

The club need to decide on a path quickly, with just a few weeks left before the window shuts. Whatever they do at right-back next season, Semedo’s presence will be sorely missed.
