FC Cincinnati captain hails Wolves loanee as ‘incredible’ after amazing moment

Wolves defender Yerson Mosquera has had an ‘incredible’ season with FC Cincinnati according to his teammate Luciano Acosta.

The Colombia international made headlines this weekend for scoring a late winner for his loan club in the Eastern Conference semi-final against Philadelphia Union.

The 1-0 game was a real ‘slugfest’ according to Cincinnati via their official website, which was ultimately decided by a goal from Mosquera, who had found himself in the right place at the right time.

He was in the box and collected the ball from an Alvaro Barreal cross, and then finished like a striker into the bottom corner.

It was the biggest match of Mosquera‘s career to date, and for him to pop up with a goal in that way was absolutely brilliant to see and after the game – Acosta lavished praise on the loanee from Wolves…

Speaking after the game on Saturday night (Sunday UK time), Cincinnati’s captain Acosta was quick to heap praise on match-winner Mosquera.

He believes the young South American has been a fantastic signing for the club since he arrived back in January.

He told Cincinnati’s official website: “I gave him some motivation. Before the game, I talked to him. I told him that if he didn’t have a yellow card, he would contribute, maybe in the goals.

“He’s having an incredible season and he’s a great player, and he definitely deserves this. I told him after the game that maybe, in another life, he was the number nine.”

Wolves are certainly pleased with how Mosquera has been getting on in the States. Recently, the club sent pathways manager Steve Davis to catch up with the youngster and watch him in action.

David stated that it has been an ‘outstanding’ spell for Mosquera – who’s made 34 appearances for the club – and also revealed that his English has improved, something Wolves were keen for him to do.

Mosquera’s loan spell a major success

It was brilliant to see Mosquera at the centre of a huge moment for Cincinnati by scoring the winning goal in a play-off semi-final.

By many accounts Wolves’ £4.5 million signing has had a really productive year, after a really frustrating time for him back at Molineux with the serious hamstring injury he picked up early doors.

The main thing was always for Mosquera to play regularly and just get a feel for football again having been on the sidelines for so long at Molineux.

Head coach Pat Noonan has said that Mosquera is in the running for defender of the year, so he has clearly made a big impression.

It’s been reported that Mosquera will likely head to a Championship club after his spell with Cincinnati finishes, which is a very sensible plan, for a player Wolves firmly believe can become a first-team player.
