Fans react as Wolves now share the worst possible injury news about Yerson Mosquera

Wolves fans have been nervously waiting for news on the condition of Yerson Mosquera – and the club have now finally put supporters out of their misery with a devastating update.

Wanderers lost 3-1 to Aston Villa at the weekend and there were concerning scenes towards the end as Mosquera needed lengthy treatment after going down under a challenge from Morgan Rogers.

Mosquera needed a stretcher to leave the field.

It had been suggested that the Colombia international had suffered an MCL injury but might also have sustained damage to his cruciate.

That left Wolves fans even more nervous earlier today.

But Wolves have now stopped any more speculation about Mosquera, as they provided an official update on the player this evening.

The club have confirmed via their website that Mosquera has indeed suffered MCL and ACL damage, and is likely to miss the rest of the season.

The statement from head of high performance Phil Hayward reads: “Yerson has now had all of the various assessments and scans which unfortunately confirm injuries to the medial collateral ligament (MCL) and the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL).

“We will be visiting specialists in the coming days to finalise the plan for surgery; this will take place in the next two weeks.

“Clearly there is a long recovery period ahead for Yerson, and the club will be providing all the support he needs to ensure a successful rehabilitation and a return to competition in due course.

“Timescales are difficult to state prior to surgery but it is highly unlikely he will feature again this season.”

Wolves fans react to Mosquera injury

On social media, Wolves fans have been left shattered by today’s bombshell about Mosquera.

There is huge disappointment, because Mosquera had made such a promising start to the 2024/25 season, after returning to the first-team picture after a couple of loan spells away.

Mosquera, of course, was sidelined for months shortly after joining the club when he suffered a serious hamstring injury just 10 minutes into his competitive debut against Tottenham Hotspur.

Not only is the injury to Mosquera a terrible blow for him personally, it also now leaves Wolves really short in terms of centre-backs.

As fans well know, the club failed to sign a centre-back in the summer window.

Plenty of fans on social media have also expressed their anger at Fosun and those in charge of transfers, with Wolves now only having three centre-back options.

A nightmare for Wolves

It is the news that every Wolves fan was dreading.

Mosquera will now be out for the foreseeable future and his injury is such a big blow and a major shame for him after he had started so well.

He will now join Enso Gonzalez in the treatment room, with the youngster having suffered a similar injury during the Olympics with Paraguay.

Sasa Kalajdzic also knows a thing or two about serious knee injuries, having suffered a third ACL injury of his career back in February.
