Fans react as Wolves loanee Matija Sarkic shines against Coventry

Wolves youngster Matija Sarkic put in another fine performance last night for Birmingham City – this time against Coventry City.

The star was making his 19th appearance for the club.

Sarkic has been a regular for Lee Bowyer, initially covering for Neil Etheridge who really struggled with Covid earlier in the season.

The Philippines international has been available for selection again for a month now.

But the form of Sarkic has been so good that he hasn’t been able to get back into the starting XI.

And it was another fine outing for Sarkic last night in the 0-0 draw with Coventry City.

The Montengro international pulled off several great saves to keep the Blues in the contest.

In their post-match player ratings pieces, the Birmingham Mail gave Sarkic an 8.5/10 for his performance.

They said of him: “Made two solid first-half saves from Godden and Maatsen and dealt with several crosses into his area. Was on hand to deny Hamer and Godden again in the second. Very, very good.”

In their eyes ,he was the star man last night.

And Bowyer was pleased with Sarkic’s contributions, saying: “Whenever they asked the question he came up trumps for us. The lad at the end there shot over the bar, I thought ‘Here we go’ but it went over.

Sarkic was really solid again last night.

It seems his loan move to St Andrew’s is going swimmingly.

He’s playing all the time and Wolves will be delighted about that.

There is a reasonable chance that John Ruddy will leave the club next summer as a free agent, possibly to retire.

Sarkic is definitely staking a claim to be Jose Sa’s back-up. He has previously spoken about wanting to become involved with the first-team.

On social media, fans lauded Sarkic for his performance against Coventry:
