Wolverhampton Wanderers star Raul Jimenez was the subject of the Premier League Twitter account’s #GoalOfTheDay today.
They tweet one goal out every day, and the Mexican’s effort against Burnley was today’s choice.
It was during the game at Turf Moor in 2020, which ultimately finished 1-1.
In the second-half, Wolves were surging forward with Adama Traore who spread the play out wide to Matt Doherty.
The Republic of Ireland defender, now of Tottenham Hotspur of course, took a shot on from outside the area, but it struck Clarets star James Tarkowski.
The ball rebounded into the path of Jimenez, who had to react in an instant to get his leg over the ball.
Many other players would either have skied their effort into row Z, or completely sliced the ball.
But Jimenez showed exquisite technique to volley the ball past Nick Pope.
The ball was so well hit that it kept the same trajectory all the way.
That was Jimenez’s 17th of the campaign, and it was a shame it did not turn out to be the winner, with Mike Dean later awarding the hosts a ridiculous penalty for handball in injury-time.
It was also a shame that no fans were present in the stadium to witness such a magnificent strike due to Covid-19.
Arguably it remains Jimenez’s best goal in Wolves colours, although his recent strike against Southampton was utterly brilliant too.
Fans on social media were left drooling over the Premier League’s clip:
