Fans already have an intriguing Rui Pedro Silva theory as Wolves confirm return

Amid all the doom and gloom, Wolves have announced a new addition to Rob Edwards’ coaching team with Rui Pedro Silva returning to the club.

Wolves fell to yet another defeat in the Premier League on Monday night, losing 4-1 to Manchester United.

It is now four defeats in four games for Rob Edwards, who is doing his level best to get something from this group of players.

So far Edwards has really struggled, but perhaps he was always going to, with many believing that this is one of the worst Premier League squads ever assembled.

Edwards took over in November after Vitor Pereira was sacked, and in recent weeks, his coaching team has been taking shape.

Harry Watling followed Edwards from Middlesbrough, and he was followed by Paul Trollope.

And now, Edwards has another member on his team, with Rui Pedro Silva returning to the club.

Silva served as Nuno Espirito Santo’s assistant between 2017 and 2021, and played a key role in the club’s rise from the Championship to the Premier League and the Europa League.

He was most recently at Nottingham Forest, but left when Nuno did.

Now, Silva is back at Compton Park as an assistant coach to provide fresh perspective – but Wolves fans have an interesting theory about the Portuguese’s return.

Obviously, things have not started at all well for Edwards.

But the club appointed him with the long term in mind, and there is a high chance that he will be leading Wolves next season regardless of what happens this term.

That said, Edwards is not unsackable. If things go disastrously, there will again be a need for a new manager.

And some feel Rui Pedro Silva may actually be a suitable candidate to take over should things not work out for Edwards.

“@RobbieBache99: “Wouldn’t shock me if he got the big job in the next six months. #wwfc.”

@Joe71gill: “Edwards gets sacked and he takes over it’s so obvious.”

@LeeMcWolf: “All ready to be our new Nuno in the Championship.”

@Andyroo1983: “I’d rather have had him over Edwards.”

@PortTNWolf: “That’s the next coach when Rob gets fired. Reboot of Nuno bringing us up from the Championship is about to happen but with Rui Pedro Silva playing Nuno’s part.”

@BobIsShort1: “Wouldn’t mind if rob left he took over as first team head coach.”

@wolfiereedy73: “Defo the next manager!!!! 🖤🧡 #wolves #wwfc”

A smart recruitment decision for once from Wolves

Wolves have made some utterly dreadful recruitment decisions in recent times.

But getting Silva back feels like a positive step.

Of course, he is not someone who can pull Wolves out of the mess they are currently in.

Rob Edwards is in no doubt Rui Pedro Silva’s return is a positive for Wolves 🐺

Are you confident RPS will help get a tune out of these Wolves players? Either way, let us know!

“It just makes complete sense and it’s a big coup for us to get Rui on to the staff.

“He’ll add so much value, not just with football knowledge and tactics, but also from a communication point of view. He’ll help us with his language skills and that’ll be a huge plus. He brings loads of good qualities, experience, tactical knowledge and understanding.”

But there is no denying he was a well-respected figure the last time around, and he’s someone a lot of the players are going to like. The Portuguese speaking players could also really benefit.

He is a proven coach, and knows how a dressing room culture should be.

As for the suggestions he could become Wolves’ future manager, who knows.

Edwards has only just arrived and the hierarchy seemingly feel he is the right man for the long term.
