FA release Vitor Pereira statement after Wolves incident vs Brighton

Vitor Pereira was sent off in Wolves’ last Premier League match against Brighton, and now the FA have released an official statement following the incident.

It was a frustrating end to the game for the Old Gold; Jan Paul van Hecke’s late equaliser compounded recent misery.

The Wanderers looked good against the Seagulls, particularly when playing in a back four, and Joe Hart was left impressed by that system.

However, following the late heartbreak, Conor Coady was also left concerned about what he saw from the Wolves players, and that ultimately ended a disappointing day.

Now, there is an update on Vitor Pereira’s red card.

Vitor Pereira charged for sending off against Brighton

The FA has officially charged Vitor Pereira after he was sent off against Brighton.

Assistant Luis Miguel revealed the Portuguese head coach aggressively booted a ball towards the dugout as the reason for the red card.

The FA have said, “It’s alleged that the manager acted in an improper manner around the 19th minute, which led to his dismissal, and he has until Monday 13 October to provide a response.”

At the moment, it is unclear what sort of punishment Pereira is looking at, but a touchline ban is a possibility.

Based on Luis Miguel’s apology in place of the head coach, it appears Pereira knows he was in the wrong, and that could give him a chance to miss zero matches.

Vitor Pereira could avoid missing crucial games for Wolves

While a touchline ban is the standard, Vitor Pereira could avoid a suspension entirely.

Back in 2022, Jurgen Klopp admitted guilt for his red card against Manchester City after he had been charged for ‘improper conduct’.

Instead of a ban, he was simply fined £30,000 and was able to be on the sideline for the Reds’ next match.

Wolves have crucial relegation matches coming against Sunderland and Burnley, and Vitor Pereira’s presence would be a boost for the players.

Hopefully the Portuguese head coach admits his mistake, and the FA can offer a more lenient punishment.
