Former Wolves midfielder David Edwards has criticised Brazilian defender Marcal.
Marcal has started every single one of Wolves’ Premier League games so far under Bruno Lage.
That’s despite Rayan Ait-Nouri signing on a permanent deal over the summer.
Of course, Jonny’s injury plays a new part and the defender is not due back until the new year.

As per the Express and Star, Edwards said: “I still think Wolves are a midfielder and centre-half light.
“They’re missing Jonny at left-back, Marcal is steady but nowhere near Jonny’s level and I’m not sure Rayan Ait-Nouri is ready to play every week.
“To bounce back from the disappointing result against Brentford with two wins is massive. It lifts Wolves into pretty much mid-table comfort in 12th. I’ve always felt they could be in that region.
It’s important they do it against teams below them, they’ve struggled at that in recent years. But under Bruno Lage they have a lot more weapons in their arsenal to do that.”

Ait-Nouri had a good pre-season and has a bright future ahead of him so the reluctance to play him is strange.
It’s not clear why Edwards thinks he’s not ready to play every week, but that would explain his absence from the side.
Marcal has struggled at times this term, and maybe that Wolves backline will go to a different level once Jonny’s back.
That said, it will take some time for him to get up to full speed after so long out of the side.
