Diego Costa to have knee assessed after strapping it up against Brentford

Diego Costa is due to have his knee assessed, after he strapped it up for the second-half against Brentford on Saturday.

The striker made headlines at the weekend for scoring his first goal for Wolves in the 2-0 win.

He collected a Toti Gomes cross and then found the bottom corner, with the ball being played off him as he went to strike.

While slightly lucky, it was no less than Costa deserved.

It was the best he has ever been in a Wolves shirt, and there are now some calls for him to get a contract extension.

Costa worked tremendously hard against the Bees. Undoubtedly, he looked the fittest he ever has since coming to Wolves.

But there was a reminder of Costa’s age during the game, when he appeared for the second-half with strapping on his knee.

Costa was replaced with around 20 minutes to go by Joao Moutinho, with the crowd singing his name as he departed.

According to The Athletic today, Costa will now be assessed for any potential damaged sustained in the game. ‘The hope is he still has a part to play’, they say.

There has been no indications yet that it could be anything serious.

Last month, in the 1-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur, Costa was forced off after taking an awkward fall in a challenge with Oliver Skipp.

His face was etched with concern and Wolves fans wondered if they might have seen Costa for the final time.

But he returned after the international break to feature against Nottingham Forest.

Fans will hope that no damage has been sustained against Brentford. Because Costa is in a great moment right now.

Hopefully no damage to Diego Costa’s knee, with striker set to be assessed

Costa was so influential against Brentford.

And he was really good against Chelsea and also against Forest.

He has been exactly what Wolves have needed in recent weeks in order to help the team pull away from the relegation zone.

So Wolves fans will have their fingers crossed that the strapping on Costa’s knee against Brentford has helped him to avoid any pain.

Wolves have given two of their best displays all season with him leading the line and Cunha playing just off him. It would be a major shame if he suddenly became unavailable.
