Defender breaks a bone at Euro U21 Championships just days after Wolves register an interest

Now that two big sales have been made, Wolves will switch their focus to incoming signings, with multiple players on their radar.

Vitor Pereira’s transfer kitty was boosted by the £62.5 million transfer of Matheus Cunha to Manchester United, which was soon followed by Rayan Ait-Nouri’s move to Manchester City.

Once all of the instalments have been paid, Wolves will have collected around £100 million in funds, with supporters hoping most of it is invested into the playing squad.

The Wanderers are already eyeing replacements for their prized assets. Molineux News revealed that Roger Fernandes is a potential successor to Cunha’s throne at Molineux, whereas Wolves have been linked with Gerard Martin to fill Ait-Nouri’s void.

Barcelona left-back Martin is currently away with Spain’s U21s at the European Championships, and it unfortunately emerged that he suffered an injury.

Gerard Martin breaks his hand at the Euro U21 Championship with Spain

Spain kicked off their tournament with a thrilling 3-2 victory over Slovakia on Wednesday, with Cesar Tarrega scoring a 90th-minute winner.

Martin started as a left-back but was substituted at half-time, ironically, for Wolves left-back Hugo Bueno after suffering an injury.

Jijantes have now reported that the 23-year-old has broken his hand and will fly to Spain to have surgery later today, with it not clear how long he will be out.

The likelihood is that the Barcelona gem has seen his tournament cut short, which is a blow to him and Wolves, depending on what the recovery time is.

Barcelona have placed a £10 million asking price on Martin amid interest from Wolves and Bournemouth, who themselves are looking to replace Milos Kerkez.

The Spanish giants could also be willing to sell Martin after buying him for just £170,000 before being promoted to the first team just a year later.

Hugo Bueno’s chance to shine

Wolves aren’t in desperate need to sign a replacement for Ait-Nouri, as Bueno is returning from his loan with Feyenoord in high spirits.

The 22-year-old was a star in the Champions League, making nine appearances in the competition and assisting once, while appearing 20 times in the league.

Feyenoord boss Robin van Persie has tipped Bueno to succeed at Wolves, praising his incredible mindset and hunger to improve.

Meanwhile, it’s become common knowledge that Bueno ‘loves’ Wolves and wants to succeed at Molineux, with the departure of Ait-Nouri presenting him the chance to do so.

Indeed, following the injury to Martin, the Spaniard should get to start in their next match against Romania on Saturday evening and truly showcase why he should be an integral part of Pereira’s plans in 2025/26.
