Dave Edwards wowed by ‘brilliant’ Wolves talent who was Vitor Pereira’s ‘best player’ vs Arsenal

Wolves slipped to another Premier League defeat on Saturday evening as Arsenal ran out 1-0 winners at Molineux.

Vitor Pereira’s men came up short on home turf, despite spending most of the game with a one-man advantage.

Myles Lewis-Skelly’s red card in the first half caused controversy as many felt he shouldn’t have been dismissed but Wolves didn’t capitalise.

Danny Murphy branded Joao Gomes ‘ridiculous’ for his challenge on Jurrien Timber in the 70th minute before Riccardo Calafiori scored what proved to be the winning goal for Arsenal moments later.

Despite losing for a fourth game in a row, one player in Wolves’ defence could hold his head high after producing a brilliant display.

Emmanuel Agbadou was Wolves ‘best player’ vs Arsenal

Wolves captured Emmanuel Agbadou from Reims earlier this month, becoming their first and only signing of the January transfer window so far.

The Ivorian powerhouse has since started in each of his first four matches, including the win over Bristol City and defeats against Newcastle, Chelsea and Arsenal.

Thankfully, the 27-year-old has largely impressed on the left of a back three, with Wolves fans praising Agbadou as ‘unbelievable’ against the Gunners.

Agbadou has slotted into the defence wonderfully, making the instant impact that Pereira desired, and Dave Edwards felt he was Wolves’ ‘best player’ on Saturday.

“The one signing we have brought in, Emmanuel Agbadou, has been fantastic. He was brilliant on Saturday and our best player on the day,” Edwards wrote in his E&S column.

“It shows exactly why we needed that pace and physicality because he won every duel and used the ball reasonably well.

“That shows what an impact a new signing can have coming into the group. He doesn’t carry the baggage of what’s happened this season, so let’s hope we see some more additions.”

What Wolves must do to clinch Premier League survival

It’s now four Premier League defeats in a row for the Molineux side, and although Agbadou has impressed, the Old Gold need further additions to stand any chance of survival.

Pereira wants two more signings before the deadline, including another centre-back, with Wolves seeing an £18.5m bid rejected for Kevin Danso.

Alongside a defensive capture, another midfielder is on the radar, as Mario Lemina edges closer to a Wolves exit amid interest from Torino.

Strengthening at the back and in the engine room could hold the key to survival but Pereira also arguably needs a new attacker as the goals have dried up.

A return of just one goal in their last four games suggests Wolves are struggling and given many clubs want to sign Matheus Cunha, a forward signing should be on their shopping list.
