Dave Edwards suggests a ‘surprise’ player may be primed and ready to replace Nelson Semedo at Wolves

Wolves are preparing for life after Nelson Semedo, who is still yet to communicate his decision.

Semedo recently became a free agent after his contract expired at Molineux.

Wolves have had a four-year offer on the table for the player since the end of last season, but all the signs have pointed to him moving on.

And Vitor Pereira recently suggested Wolves are now looking to replace Semedo, in the clearest indication yet that he is not signing.

Wolves are closing in on Marc Pubill from Almeria, after AC Milan pulled out of the race.

But for Dave Edwards, a solution may already lie within the squad for Pereira, as the manager looks to replace Semedo.

Dave Edwards thinks Ki-Jana Hoever is in the best position to replace Nelson Semedo

The Semedo situation has become rather farcical.

That a decision still has not been officially communicated to fans is really strange, and certainly far from ideal in terms of Wolves preparing for the new season.

But Pereira’s comments were ominous the other day, and the 31-year-old extending to this point looks utterly fanciful.

Wolves are seemingly making headway for Pubill which is positive news.

But for Dave Edwards, Ki-Jana Hoever could make for a decent solution.

He said in his latest E&S column: “There’s plenty of players in that situation. None more so than Ki-Jana Hoever, who played really well in the friendly against Burnley and set up Jorgen Strand Larsen with a really strong run down the right.

“Maybe he is a player who Wolves fans had thought they had already seen his last game in a Wolves shirt. He’s gone away on loan, he’s played a lot of football and he’s got all the attributes to be a really strong wing-back.

“We signed him with lots of hope from Liverpool but it was always going to take time for him to develop.

“If we haven’t got the replacement for Nelson Semedo by the start of the season, Hoever could very well be the man with the shirt.

“With his experience already, I feel like he’s in the best position. If he can start the season well, you never know, he might be a surprise to everyone.”

Hoever’s time to shine

We will see if Wolves are able to make progress on the Pubill deal, but this is undoubtedly a huge chance for Hoever.

Hoever has become something of a forgotten man for Wolves, having had loan spells in recent times.

But he did well for Auxerre last season and now that Semedo is gone, he has the chance to finally become a regular starter for Wolves.

He’s now in front of Pereira and has a golden opportunity to impress.

Fans praised Hoever after seeing footage of his assist for Jorgen Strand Larsen in the game against Burnley, and perhaps he really could end up being the ‘surprise’ successor to Semedo.
