Dave Edwards says Wolves have a ‘ridiculous’ player who makes everyone around him better

Vitor Pereira has guided Wolves to 14 points clear of safety, and Dave Edwards believes one player has had a huge impact recently.

Wolves are going to be a Premier League club again next season – it is now just a question of when mathematical safety is confirmed.

Vitor Pereira has been a revelation for Wolves since he came in.

And one of the biggest things he has done, is to get Wolves more organised.

The improvements at the back have been clear to see, and the signing of Emmanuel Agbadou has been totally transformative.

There’s been so much talk about Agbadou’s impact.

But Dave Edwards has moved to give another mid-season signing – Marshall Munetsi – his flowers.

Munetsi has been a very interesting addition to Wolves’ team.

He is a defensive midfielder by trade, who can also go from box to box. But so far at Wolves, he has taken up advanced roles and in recent weeks, played as an inside right forward.

Pereira recently hailed Munetsi, describing him as the key to Jorgen Strand Larsen’s recent success.

And now, former Old Gold midfielder Edwards has praised the Zimbabwe international.

He said on The Official Wolves podcast: “Our press is set by our front three in particular. Munetsi, the amount of running that boy gets through is ridiculous.

“And it’s not aimless running, it’s very considered, controlled. He will just get back into his shape into that sort of right attacking midfield role. But as soon as he senses there’s a moment, he goes. The effect that has on the team is that ‘We’ve got to go with him’.

“I feel now Wolves fans are starting to understand the importance of Munetsi. He’s not going to win fans over for what he does on the ball. He’s not Matheus Cunha, he’s not Pablo Sarabia, he’s not that type of player. But he’s just as effective in the right moments.

“When we’ve got the ball, his running off it creates space for other people. He arrives in the box at really good moments. Creates space for other people.

“It sounds like that doesn’t mean a lot, but it’s huge. He makes other players around him a lot better. And then off the ball, he’s just an absolute phenom. He’s ridiculously good.”

Edwards previously stated that ‘everyone at Compton appreciates’ Munetsi for what he has brought to Wolves.

Munetsi adored at Wolves

This is some high praise indeed from Edwards for Munetsi, who is clearly a really popular figure at Wolves already.

He may have spurned a lot of chances since he arrived.

But Munetsi undoubtedly brings a lot of value in terms of his work off the ball, and has a fantastic engine.

Pereira clearly admires him a lot, as he pointed straight to him when talking about Strand Larsen’s recent success. In many ways, Munetsi is very much a reflection of Pereira himself, with the Portuguese all about work ethic and determination.

It will be interesting to see how much he continues to play in the right-sided role from now until the end of the season.
