Former Wolves midfielder Dave Edwards thinks one Wolves player needs to get the nod after an impressive showing against Everton.
The international break gives teams a chance to reassess, plan the integration of new signings, and figure out the strongest XI.
It was an underwhelming end to the window for Wolves, that much is clear.
But Vitor Pereira has gotten new faces into the club, and now the challenge is to figure out who makes it into Wolves’ starting lineup.
Dave Edwards thinks one new signing should be trusted to start for the Old Gold.
Dave Edwards says Fer Lopez has to be given a chance to prove himself for Wolves
Dave Edwards gave a candid assessment of Wolves following their 3-2 loss to Everton at the weekend.
Fer Lopez was brought on after the hour mark, and put in his strongest display in a Wolves shirt.
Writing for E&S, Edwards says: “Fer Lopez put in his best performance since his arrival. If he can bring that on a consistent basis, then he has to play.”
The former Championship winner with Wolves is reminded of another Spaniard who just left the club when he watches Lopez play.
He explains: “He is in the mould of Pablo Sarabia, but he is better physically. The pockets of space he found were very, very good.”
Wolves have looked toothless going forward in the first few games, and Lopez’s creativity could be huge for Pereira’s attack. Hopefully, he gives the 21-year-old a fair shake in the starting XI in what will be a difficult Newcastle game.
Vitor Pereira hasn’t identified his strongest Wolves XI
Edwards looks at the opening games and is concerned about the lack of consistency in the teams fielded.
He remarks: “One of the big things that I have noticed has changed this season, especially compared to last year, we have not got a settled starting XI.
“Last season, apart from the odd change, you had a good idea what the team was going to be heading into a game. That helps consistency, building relationships and a whole manner of things.”

The international break has come at the right time for Wolves. The way the team has performed in the month of August raises alarms around their survival prospects.
There is a definite need for change in how Wolves set up, especially in the face of one of the toughest away trips in the English top flight.
