Dave Edwards names the Wolves attack he wants to see against Newcastle

Wolves are facing Newcastle United at St. James’ Park on Sunday – and Dave Edwards has revealed the attack he would like to see from Julen Lopetegui.

It’s a good chance for points, with Newcastle having struggled recently.

The Magpies are winless in their last five and have had problems scoring goals.

Eddie Howe’s side may be fifth in the Premier League table, but it is undoubtedly a good time to be playing them.

Lopetegui will have been carefully considering what kind of team to pick for the game.

Wolves have a plethora of options now, especially in attack.

Edwards has been speaking about the game with Newcastle on the Wolves Weekly podcast. And he shared the attack he would like to see at St. James’.

Plumping for a front three, he said: “I think for Wolves, having that out-and-out number nine helps so much, and that’s what we’ve missed all season.

“If (Raul) Jimenez plays like he did on Saturday, then he would start. If everyone else is fit, I do like (Pablo) Sarabia on that right-hand side. I think he’s got a bit of guile about him. He’s not hit the heights yet.

“I would probably play, if he was fit, (Daniel) Podence, I think he gives you options. I like that as a front three and I think you’ve got goals and assists in there and with Jimenez, a physical presence.”

An interesting shout from Dave Edwards, after Daniel Podence missed out against Tottenham

This is an interesting shout from Edwards for what attack he’d like to see against Newcastle.

Most fans would probably agree that Jimenez has to start after his fine display against Spurs.

But the other two players might have some fans disagreeing.

Sarabia is doing OK at the moment for Wolves. But he hasn’t quite lived up to his billing just yet. There’s every chance Adama Traore might get the nod over him after his heroics against Tottenham.

And Podence was, of course, left out completely last weekend for tactical reasons according to Lopetegui.

It will be very interesting to see if he comes back in and if he does, in what capacity.

Many have been suggesting that £17 million man Podence is much better when he starts and is simply ineffective coming off the bench.

Lopetegui has the likes of Matheus Cunha and Pedro Neto too, so it really will be fascinating to see what that attack looks like come Sunday.
