Dave Edwards insists one Wolves player was actually ‘immense’ vs Man United – and it’s not Emmanuel Agbadou

Wolves recorded yet another win in the Premier League on Sunday, this time beating Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Wanderers secured their safety with the 1-0 victory, and it was Pablo Sarabia who proved to be the difference-maker.

Sarabia struck from a free-kick on the edge of the box, giving Andre Onana no chance whatsoever.

Wolves were nowhere near their best.

But everything is going right at the moment under Vitor Pereira, who yet again found himself in a Wolverhampton pub after the win.

One of the biggest reasons Wolves got that win on Sunday was because the backline was so solid.

Emmanuel Agbadou again shone once more in the heart of the defence. But he wasn’t the player Dave Edwards singled out after the win.

There has been so much talk about Agbadou, and what a huge difference he has made to Wolves’ backline since he signed from Reims.

The Ivory Coast international has been a real gamechanger, and looks a laughably good signing at just £16 million.

But one man certainly worth mentioning in the same breath as Agbadou is Toti Gomes, who has been brilliant under Pereira.

Toti missed a few games through injury early on when Pereira came in. But he has been a constant pick for the manager – and he has been fully deserving of such a prominent role.

Data showed Toti shone once again on Sunday against United, and arguably did even better than Agbadou, who he mopped up for a couple of times.

His highlight came in the second-half, when Rasmus Hojlund had wriggled away from Agbadou and was bearing down on goal. Toti managed to get across and time a perfect challenge on the striker to snuff out the danger.

After the game, former Old Gold midfielder Dave Edwards said on X: “Another top away day watching @Wolves

“Not at our stellar best but Vitor’s boys showed passion, desire and spirit to get us over the line. Toti Gomes was immense. 5 in a row.”

Toti Gomes is underrated beyond belief

Every now and then, Toti has ‘one of the those games’. Pereira joked Toti ‘tried to kill me’ after the win over West Ham United, where the defender was a bit careless on the ball which led to team being put under pressure.

But they really are becoming very rare now, with the Portuguese looking so solid on the left of that back three.

The impact of Agbadou has been huge, but Toti has been every bit as important in that backline.

Under Pereira, Wolves have kept clean sheets in the Premier League – and Toti has featured in every one of those. When he got his hamstring injury, Wolves did not keep a single clean sheet in the five games he missed, conceding 12.

There are a lot of stars in this Wolves team who often get written about.

Matheus Cunha has always grabbed headlines for obvious reasons, and then the likes of Joao Gomes and Andre have also started to get a bit of recognition.

Toti still remains rarely spoken about when it comes to Wolves, but what a seriously underrated player he is. Perhaps it’d actually be better if he remained under the radar.
