Dave Edwards hails Wolves duo after Everton win, including ‘terrific’ £21m ace

Wolves are through to the fourth round of the Carabao Cup after beating Everton 2-0 at Molineux, and two players left a big impression on Dave Edwards.

Vitor Pereira’s side got a much-needed win, and now await their opponents for the next round of the competition.

Wolves were much improved against the Toffees, thanks in part to a system change from Pereira.

The Wolves manager went with a back four, and Wolves looked a lot more solid at the back as a result.

It remains to be seen if this system will be used more frequently. But many fans would like to think it will stick around given how poorly Wolves have played with a back three.

There were a few really good individual performances last night.

Wolves fans raved over Ladislav Krejci, who looked a class act against Everton. And the rest of the defence were also widely praised.

For Dave Edwards, there were two standouts in the game.

Wolves were worth their victory last night.

It was a nice, controlled display in the first-half, and then the team showed grit and defensive discipline in the second as Everton cranked up the pressure.

A clean sheet was really important, and hopefully now Pereira’s side can build on that.

After the game, Dave Edwards – who had been on commentary for Sky Sports – picked out Andre and Marshall Munetsi as his standout players for Wolves.

He said live on Sky after the full-time whistle: “Some good performances in there. Andre, I thought he was terrific in this game. They’ll be hoping his injury isn’t too bad.

“Munetsi, can frustrate fans at times. But he shows you what he can bring with the athleticism he has and getting on the end of chances at the other end of the pitch.”

Andre has to play every game for Wolves

Last night, £21 million signing Andre (BBC Sport) served up a reminder just what a quality player he is.

Pereira has dropped Andre a couple of times so far this season, much to the bemusement of fans.

It’s not been entirely clear as to why that has happened, but the Brazilian remains one of Wolves’ best players and surely he has to be on that pitch as often as possible.

Andre vs Everton
Minutes played – 87
Touches – 67
Passes completed – 50/50 (100%)
Duels won – 7/8 (87.5%)
Defensive contributions – 8

He was superb against Everton. As per Sofascore data, he did not waste a single pass, completing 50/50. He also won 7/8 duels and made a total of five tackles – no player in the game managed more.

Andre – previously dubbed one of the best sixes in the Premier League by Edwards – was so good in the second half of last season, and hopefully we will see him return to that level in the coming weeks.
