Dave Edwards hails ‘special’ Vitor Pereira at Wolves amid stunning Nuno Espirito Santo comparison

Wolves picked up their fourth straight Premier League win on Sunday, moving them up to 16th in the table and propelling supporters into dreamland.

It’s been an incredible turnaround under Vitor Pereira, who replaced Gary O’Neil in December, with the Portuguese boss winning eight of his 16 league games in charge.

Pereira made Premier League history in the 4-2 win over Tottenham, becoming the first Wolves manager to win four games on the bounce, telling of his impact.

Micah Richards also praised Wolves for their transformation under the 56-year-old, which has been magnificent from the moment he arrived.

Meanwhile, some supporters even compared Pereira to Nuno Espirito Santo for the current feel-good factor around Molineux, with one figure in agreement.

The togetherness now seen at Wolves was unthinkable when O’Neil was in charge, but the entire football club has been transformed.

Pereira has even built an incredible relationship with the fanbase, and after the game on Sunday, was pictured on social media drinking a pint with supporters.

Remarkably, the Portuguese tactician acts like a fan, which is refreshing to see in a modern era where there’s a huge disconnect between the manager and supporters.

Dave Edwards is someone who has noticed this budding relationship, comparing it to when Nuno Santo was winning the hearts of fans at Molineux.

“As I’ve said, it’s just all down to Pereira,” Edwards said via the E&S. “To see the energy that he had at the end of the game with the fans is very special.

“It’s something that you crave as a football fan, you want to see your manager as almost one of you, to have the same sort of passion and someone you can really relate with.

“His personality and the way he talks about the football club, it makes it such a special connection. Pereira has done the most tremendous job and he deserves all the plaudits he is getting at the moment.

“When a manager comes and fully commits to the city, it really helps. I’ve seen that with Vitor and you saw that with Nuno. Him and all his staff are living in the city, you’ll see them out in restaurants and maybe in pubs for Vitor now that we know he enjoys a pint.”

A new contract on the horizon for Pereira

Comparisons between Pereira and Nuno are special. While the latter is currently leading Nottingham Forest to Champions League football, he will always be remembered for what he achieved in Wolverhampton, most notably back-to-back Europa League campaigns.

Pereira has big dreams at Wolves and the experienced manager will hope to craft a similar legacy to his counterpart, starting as he means to go on.

To drag the Wanderers 14 points clear of the relegation zone with six matches left is telling of the job he’s done, as he arrived in December with the club four points adrift of safety.

So, with him doing tremendously in the hot seat, supporters will hope he commits his long-term future to the club and Molineux News exclusively revealed that Wolves could hand Pereira a new contract towards the end of this year.

That would be a huge boost to the club, who could build something special under the manager, as long as he’s backed in the summer.
