Dave Edwards explains why Rob Edwards is definitely the man to lead Wolves’ revival

Wolves fans cannot wait to see the back of the 2025/26 season, and a huge summer awaits.

The Old Gold will play Championship football next season, after a dismal campaign that has seen the club win just three games so far this term.

In November Wolves sacked Vitor Pereira and replaced him with Rob Edwards.

Should Rob Edwards still be Wolves’ manager for the start of 2026/27 season? 🤔

If not, let us know in the comments who the club should look to replace him with…

The change failed to bring about the turnaround everyone hoped for, and Edwards now finds himself under pressure heading into the final two games.

Many believe he hasn’t done enough to warrant leading Wolves’ rebuild this summer, with a lot hoping that Fosun will actually remove him at the end of the season.

But Dave Edwards has insisted his namesake is the right man for the job.

Dave Edwards insists Rob Edwards should stay on as Wolves manager

Rob Edwards has really struggled to get results since he came in.

He lost his first seven in a row, before there was then a bit of an upturn.

And Wolves showed signs of life before the last international break, beating the likes of Aston Villa and Liverpool, and put in some good showings against other top teams.

However, Wolves have been atrocious since club football resumed after the international break, and many aren’t convinced by him.

Dave Edwards is not one of those people though.

He said (via E&S): “A lot of the recruitment is going to be key and it’s important, I think, that the club stick by Edwards and the fans stick by him as well.

Right now, at least we are ahead of the game because Edwards knows where the improvements need to be made in the squad, who needs to leave because it’s not right for the culture of the team.

“Whereas if you change managers mid-summer, then all that work has to start again.

“Obviously, some of it’s (transfer business) going to continue into the summer, but you have to clear the decks as quickly as possible because you need good characters in the building.

“Edwards is the best man at the moment to know exactly what Wolves need because he’s been in there and he’s seen it and he knows the club inside out.

“He needs backing for a proper rebuild because right now the club is as low as it has been since that double relegation.”

Rob Edwards will stay, but he’ll need a fast start

It seems extremely unlikely that Fosun will remove Edwards this summer, because he was clearly hired with the Championship in mind.

To make a change before he even gets a chance in the second tier would be embarrassing for the owners.

Rob Edwards’ managerial record at Wolves 25/26
Games managed – 28
Wins – 5
Draws – 7
Losses – 16
Goals scored – 26
Goals conceded – 45

That said, Edwards will need to make sure he starts the season well, because his stock isn’t particularly high.

If Wanderers don’t make a strong start and establish themselves as promotion contenders early doors, then he could be in a bit of trouble.
